From time to time my maps that I test will freeze the entire computer and forces me to shut it all down and wait for 10 minutes for it to reboot. Why is it his happening also? Also it seems to occur more often whenever I create a breakable object inside my map.
New Created Maps Freeze
Did you write down the correct mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs?
Hummer wrote an excellent tutoral on how to make a new ET map
Link: http://www.hummerdesign.com/tutorials/et_start.html
I believe so but does the map usually freeze if the mapcoords are incorrect or is there another reason as to why?
My ET crashes now and then, but if I understand you correctly that you need to turn your computer of and wait before its able to boot again. Then it sounds more like a hardware problem. Try running some diagnotics utilities to check that the CPU, graphicscard etc. isn’t overheating.
Ohh, BTW what OS are you running?
It sounds very logical but lately I have been making sure that my coords are correct and hasn’t crashed since but thank you anyways.
I do however have another problem.
When I put textures on my brushes in Radiant and test the map, the textures do not come up but just orange squares, any solutions?
Just one other question. I cannot access textures to import them into my EasyGenerator. I can unzip the pak0.pk3 file but all it shows me is a whole bunch of individual files all scattered. Nothing in there says something like textures are whatever. I have tried to take all the files from pak0.pk3 and import them into the EasyGenerator but still nothing comes up when I select the AlphaMap for the textures it is like the extension on the texture file is incorrect and I have no idea how to change them.
Any help on these topics would be deeply appreciated.
If your having trouble with easy gen theres a tut at http://www.wolfensteinx.com/surface/tutorials/easygen.html that had helped me
. For the orange squares in game, that means that ET was unable to find the textures you used. Make sure all textures you use are from enemy-territory and if you want to add new textures put them in etmain/textures/ folder. To get the texture files from pak0 in easygen, open up pak0, open the folder called textures, and all those folders inside it contain the textures. You can extract those to etmain/textues folder. After that in easygen go to textures/add folder… and select one of the extracted folders you put in etmain/textures and it should load the textures at the bottom. If you cant veiw the textures in easygen even though you applyed a texture to the terrain make sure you check the texture box thingy in the upper right hand corner.
As for why mapcoordsmins and maxcoordsmaxs has to be correct is I think it tells the game where the area is that the players are gonna play in(if you dont have these set et crashes when you run your new map). You’ll need those coordnates to make a command map for your level.
If your new to mapping make sure you visit the reasource sticky page up at the top in the forums. You might also might wanna check some tutorails on quake3 mapping becuase ET is based on its engine and uses the same map editor. Good luck and happy mapping
Thanks but the TUT at surface is the one I used before but did not help me. Do you know of any others?
When you unzipped the files what folder did they unzip to?
What program are you using to unzip? It sounds like it doesn’t recreate the directory structure. Depending on the program that not always standard procedure to do that.
Anyway, if you use your filemanager of choice and browse to the folder where you installed ET then in the folder etmain/ you should find the textures folder - provided you have it unzipped correctly.
When you get it unzipped correctly:
In EasyGen did you select Textures => Add folder and then browse to a folder with images? Easygen does not include subfolders when you do that.
