Hey I just downloaded the new Brink Update (30th July) and to my (Not so big) Surpise. It DOES NOTHING! Now I live in NZ and have had the game about a month and half now and have yet too play a full game online where I dont lag so much its unplayable. The ONLY reason I think of is cause I live in New Zealand…i LOVE this game! well…I love only playing against the bots I have yet to fight human players! yes the update added Big teams back to the list…not that that helps. The weapon tweaks work. I think the bot update worked but the most important thing of actually being able to play this online game online…did not. **** it I’m going to go play LA Noire and Bad Company 2…
New Brink update does nothing.
I got no words. The update has worked in spades for me. Allied AI is smarter and more agressive, and actually complete objectives without me even being near it to protect them. No idea why it doesn’t seem to be working for you, because it IS working.
Are you on PS3? Add M82-Tango and I’ll send you an invite to the chatroom that we use to setup matches.
I’m in Japan, and I’ve never gotten a real person in matchmaking… Its because of our location. But I have played hundreds of matches through the chatroom community…including some lag-free matches with other people in Asia.
Nah Im on Xbox but im not saying the AI and gun tweaks dont work im saying the lag fix doesn’t work I can not play a single game online without lag or only having ONE other player and no lag
You should find the Nepharius guy I think is his name on this forum and add his gamertag. He sets up xbox360 matches and has a pretty decent amount of the other xbox360 users from this forum added on his friends list.
As for the lag/lack of players in online matches, that is probably due to your location more than anything, I can usually find lag-free matches anytime I play on the box myself, but I’m in America. Again, if you can add Nepharius and get in on some of the 360 community game nights, you can add a lot more Brink players from there for future matches.
Lol yeah I did that weeks ago and whenever I join his matches are the only times I ever find people online, but its also the only time I ever lag, and i mean Major lag!
I mean if they fixed the lag ONLY the lag then this would be an AWESOME game but nope its the ONLY issue for me is the lag!
This is why peer-to-peer sucks and dedicated servers own. I’ve played plenty of Brink (PC) and can only recall a handful of times where I’ve rubberbanded, no hit reg, or other such lag issues. I cannot understand why people want to play fps games on xbox where the entire thing is ruined by the p2p setup (even with a decent connection, host will own you).
sadly i played this game every day for the first couple of months and now am so burnt out it is killing me. all they did was ruin everysingle gun by making them more powerful and WAAAAY more random. i cant hit something watermelon sized from 100 feet away thats a god damn joke
I’ve had this game on the backburner for quite a while now. Been waiting for the update and DLC to release, since I didn’t want to get comfortable with how the weapons handled beforehand. Only messed around with the weapons a little bit, but I did touch everything 'cept the grenade launchers and light rifles. My favorite rifle, the Gerund, does seem like it kicks a little more. Means to be as accurate as before I’d have to slap on a front grip, and as a Soldier that just isn’t gonna happen. The biggest change I was looking for was in the Maximus. It still feels just as inaccurate as before (2-shot bursts are impossible. Every second round and beyond strays off target, so you’re still left hoping your follow-up shots don’t miss), so I still won’t be playing as a heavy in all likelihood. Easy fix to this would be to give the Maximus a front grip. It has the rail mount for it, so it really seems off that it can’t be equipped with one.
It really seems like the weapons in Brink will never feel quite right, which is the primary reason why the game’s popularity will never reach the potential it had at launch. As far as I see it, Brink’s chance at great success has passed. While the community we have right now may keep the game going, we’re not going to get what we really want until the eventual follow-up game comes out (provided SD learns that the weapon mechanics employed in Brink make for an overall unsatisfying gameplay experience). It’s quite frustrating for me. I really like the objective-based game design, but the weapons feel terrible as a whole.

Adding a front grip doesn’t make it anywhere close to as accurate as it used to be, unfortunately.
The Gerund, and Rhett felt great before. We just needed the SMGs to do less damage or have less range, in order to make the assault rifles the best all-around guns.
SMGs should be tight, accurate, low range, low damage guns where you shoot full auto and track the head. ARs should be burst fire or tap fire guns to be shot from the hip while strafing… They should outgun anything at medium range with this technique, in my opinion.
I think I may know what you’re talking about. I play with a lot of forum users from here including Neph. I’ve never lagged with his hosting before, but today it lagged for me REAL bad every game. Maybe the update may have fiddled with NZ/AU service.
Your connection bar and ping was only half green, while everyone else had full green bars. I checked it last night. You are in Australia so that’s some of it. But I’ve played with you before the patch, and your bar was only a quarter green or orange. half green is an improvement. Neph has his host drop a lot so there is a connection issue there. When I hosted in the afternoon the game was a lot smoother than before the patch. The game ran significantly better across the board last night as well even when I was not host.

lol unfortunately he lags like crazy in my matches cuz I live on the east coast of the US.

Personally I think the Rhett feels way better now. On my soldier I always run underslung and therefore am lacking the front grip while on my other classes I run it with the front grip. Last night my soldier felt like he had the front grip and the underslung thanks to the patch. For me the patch really resolved the AR/SMG issue thus far.
You live in NZ, what did you expect? Practically every player I have talked with from AU/NZ talks about how they have connection issues, regardless what game it is.
My only beef with the update is that they failed to fully patch the heavy weapons exploit. Now instead of a light body with a gatlung cannon that I can gun down quick I have to deal with mediums wielding the gatlung cannon and taking significantly more shots to bring down. With the heavy weapon’s buff this is an intolerable state of play. The heavies were balanced in that they moved slowly and were easy targets even though they wielded massive firepower. I can’t believe they patched the light exploit only to leave the mediums able to do the same exploit. Why not patch the stupid wodget of code that keeps the old arsenal? Make a default load out for each body type and make it default to that until the player manually selects a new default loadout. Then make sure that when there is a body type switch that the default load out is automatically applied. I’m sure the coding involved is more complicated than that but, that seems to be the simplest solution to what could be a balance breaking exploit with the heavy weapons buff.
I don’t understand this. Yes it is an exploit, but how is that worse then before?
They could have exploited mediums before the patch as well and had this “more armor that is so hard to take down” … but they choose light. It is better, but not fixed. Mediums are the sloppy seconds.
Actually you ARE right. I did have half a bar (more than usual). But I did lag more than usual too. Its usually terrible or good, but this was not unplayable, but frustrating enough to make my aim redundant for every game. I don’t know what’s worse. Maybe it WAS Neph’s connection that time, tho. I’ll see when I catch u guys next.
But I like the patch improvements. Weapons seem more balanced to me. (Spewin about more kick back in my Gerund, but at least it has more punch)
Nah EVERY game I play is fine most of the time with little to no lag, until Brink. Which is why when I bought the game and heard about the lag i wasn’t worried. For about 3 weeks I still wasnt Cause I hadnt found a single game. Then I found a full game and it was lagsville
