New Brink Dev Diary Sounds off on Audio Design
This is just the wrong forum for me, we never talk about stuff I know about.
I love these guys! It’s rare that you really hear about a studio going the extra mile.
(How often have you watched a movie or played a game and heard the same “child’s laughter” or “death scream” sound bite?)
I wonder if it will be possible to disable ambient sounds. Chris said he listened to players who like to turn it off, doesn’t necessarily they put in the feature to turn it off.
Also I’m curious if you can play your own custom music if you own an xbox. Because Halo Reach didn’t let you unless all you wanted to hear was your music and no ingame sounds.
But besides all the bunk in this post Thank you SplashDamage for actually caring about your creation, people like you are a rare find these days.
Sounds pretty damn awesome! (hah!)
The Start is the initial attack; it’s the first shot fired and this sample always stays the same.
What if a player repeatedly clicks mouse1 to fire? Is the Start sound so distinct from the middle sounds that it sounds weird?
A player repeatedly clicking mouse 1 to fire is too slow for it to make it sound like a burst fire, you’ll then hear distinct shots.
I really wonder if this is the first time a game employs this. Are all the other games using the same sample stacked?
I know that Shattered Horizon also uses different sounds for when a clip is running empty, the last 10 shots in your 60 clip make a rattling sound. It truly is an amazingly instinctive cue to reload.
I have no idea about audio stuff but this entry makes it sound like they put a lot of thought into this and didn’t just go for the standard. If that is true I’m impressed by the many many ways this game tries to be different and better than all the other FPS games nowadays
