I guess it will be battersea :frowning: lol

(prophett) #6

Sick joke if it is.

Good morning chaps.

Dome’s blockout isn’t done quite yet, there’s still more to come there. We’ll also be looking to get some more love for another blockout, and that will indeed be Battersea. The timeline mentioned above was a very optimistic one for Battersea, we’re considering spending a little more time on Dome now, which would push Battersea back.

Dome is shaping up to be a pretty sweet map, and we want to make sure that it gets every additional moment of love that needs in order to really shine. If that means it needs more dev time allocated to it, we’re happy to do that.

So no new blockout map, how many maps you plan for the release ?

So there isn’t actually any new blockouts? Come on man, we need something.

(Silvanoshi) #10

We’ve got two Obj/Stopwatch maps on the go atm, we’d look at bringing them a little further along before looking at more.

(prophett) #11

Community blockout, or get out!

(Glottis-3D) #12

what about different maps for SW and Obj, because currently Objmode doesnot work, on the same maps that are somewhat nice in SW.

(Silvanoshi) #13

That may be a possibility further down the line, but right now we’re focusing on improving our current maps. That’ll be beneficial for players, as well as potential mappers when it comes to informing them through design what works well, and what doesn’t work quite so much.

We’re actually looking forward to seeing how Obj plays out as we bring larger numbers of players into the beta. We can then look at making tweaks where necessary.

(Glottis-3D) #14

PLEASE.
DONT.
JUST.
DONT.

on a serious note. lets at least have a nice talk about OBJ-mode problems, before that.
i entirely hate it in DB. and i loved it in ETQW.

(Silvanoshi) #15

In case anyone missed it, I’ve clarified my response in my first post to the thread. That tweet was a tad on the optimistic side of things.

You’d be surprised what a little bit of tweaking can do :).

(Seanza) #16

Yes it’s great to have guidance from the dev’s map designers but the players can give better feedback on what works and what doesn’t work better than dev mappers can. Hence our involvement.

(tokamak) #17

The value of a blockout is that you can quickly test consecutive iterations. We’ve only seen one Dome iteration yet. Of course it’s possible to have both but given the choice I’d rather see a Dome update than whole new blockouts.

I guess next iteration we see will be fancy with colors and all? :frowning:

(spookify) #19

Whens SD going to switch to Unreal Engine 4.5?

(PixelTwitch) #20

I still believe people only seem to like Dome so much because its new…
Honestly, I think its the worst map currently in the game…

Splitting the first objective into 1 of 2 possibles you actually increase the Rock, Paper, Scissors effect on the time outcome. This is going to leave the map fundamentally broken in competitive play due to the luck factor on the first couple of spawns. On top of that, each of the first two objectives only have one defensive entrance meaning it can be very frustrating to try and retake.

Even after the initial objective you are left with some serious problems.
The main paths are covered by 270 degrees of defensive overlook.

Due to the crappy first person camera alignment it is also possible to shoot up and down at people without being physically visible. Many of the trick jump spots are actually slower than the main path that comes out at the exact same location. The use of the grass totally masks the proximity mines making it frustrating to do anything even half quickly. You have very long range combat in a game where the weapons are very accurate.

Please do not be silly enough to believe that people truly love this map. People voted for it because it was the newest map and people was feeling refreshed when playing it. I can assure you, continuing on the current path is only going to result in more lost time and a very frustrated player base.
