Never ending or 50 wave commnad post defence

(Yemster) #1

I discussed this on the Brink forums and people seemed to like it so I figured I’d bring up here. (First post btw :D)

The idea is that 4 people defend a command post from waves of enemies, a lot like the tower defence challenge. I’m thinking that maybe that this mode can have its own dedicated maps or can be somehow implemented into existing maps.
The way it works is that the 4 players need to have at least one command post under their control before the enemy AI takes it. One player can be the soldier is to not only resupply ammo but also open up pathways to possibly spread the AI out. The Engineer can buff weapons and kevlar and deploy the defences but can also build bridges stairs that lead to other locations and command posts. The Medic keeps everyone alive. And finally the operative can hack doors or cranes to stop enemies from coming from certain locations or open patchs to other locations. As the group goes further into the challenge there will more command posts available so the group doesnt have to run back and forth all the time. The challenge ends until the group loses all their command posts.
To make this challenging every couple of rounds a super buffed enemy will come up along with the other enemies. What I mean by supper buffed is like an enemy with a triple metabolism boost with super improved weapon buff, double kevlar vest and super improved health buff. Well u know a boss of some sorts every 5 rounds or something.
At the end of round a survival bonus can be given or something. We can have leaderboards that show how long it took for the group to complete the challenge, how many downs and how much experience the group accumulated.

So what u think? Dont think I explained it very well tbh lool but u can check the link to get better idea cause it was discussed there.

Sounds cool to me. Like Horde? Or Firefight Mode?

Sounds quite fun. Nice idea…

Like the Tower Defense Challenge. Would there be some indicator (like the flashing lights) that a new wave is spawning? To allow for defensive setup like turrets and mines. Etc.

Beware my wall of text in that other post.

I couldn’t figure out how to explain my thoughts with more brevity, so you all must suffer for it!

I want this because I always want the tower defense challenge to continue on and get harder. They could easily make a game mode around this and maybe have side missions that require you to venture out from the spot you are trying to defend. And it should be set in a different location than the challenge area.

(GreasedScotsman) #7

Agreed… I would get to the end and sort of go… “Wait, already?”

@wolfnemesis75
Yh just like tower defence. Flashing lights can indicate the doors but I think a warning from like Chen or Mokoena would be better to tell the users that the next wave is comin also it would be good to let the players have like 10-30 seconds to prepare any defences.

This is basically a hordes mode of some sorts

On the divided maps, perhaps once you fend off so many waves, (like on Labs for instance) the elevator shaft is automatically blown, and you move on to the next section at the Engineer fix. Now you have to fend off wave after wave in this area. That way, we play the entire map on both sides of the objective.

That would definitely work. The way I see it this mode could work in pretty much all the maps that we currently have tbh. It would be nice to have a few dedicated maps as well like a mega version of the tower defence level in which the players can slowly make their way up to another floor if things get to intense.
Though having to fend of waves in the two area maps would be good. It would force players to change their tactics if the way they were playing the first area doesnt work in the second.

But as typical, its much easier and more likely to believe that a mode like this could be incorporated into the current maps since they already exist. You just have to tweak the maps that have sections so that the entire map is played. One of the coolest looking and neat maps is Reactor, but a lot of it can be totally avoided in an effort to just plant the HE charge at the second portion. This map would be sick for a Tower Defense mode as you suggest!

(Yemster) #12

Very good point, and I’m sure it wouldnt be difficult for Splash Damage to tweak the maps for this. Though a mega tower defence map with multiple floors is the way to go with this mode.

The co-op aspect of Brink is really fun. Anyway to play that up even further would be great in my book. Last night I went through Resistance Campaign on hard with some friends, and had fun. You get to talk about the story when you do that, where-as against other humans, you don’t do that as much. The bots cheat like hell and do freaky S*** we can’t do, which is hilarious if you take it in stride. When everyone’s quiet in your party, you know the bots been doing some pwn-cheats. We were trying to get revenge on one particular bot last night! Not to be mean, but the bots can be more challenging than a collection of humans on the opposite team in this game. Bots buff each other and are unselfish.

(Yemster) #14

Bots are unselfish but unfortunately most of the time they are pretty useless lol. Then again that can be said about some of people I have played with on PS3. Especially those COD like Medics and spamming turret engineers -.-

(wolfnemesis75) #15

COD Medics! Yup. Obsessed with buffing themselves! Must’ve been the Community College version of Med School that they attended. LOL.
