Need with compiling *.map to *.BSP and my friend w/ other...

(The Mysterious) #1

Hello! Help! ASAP! Thank you.

I have Gtk Radiant 1.5.0 ET and i’m trying to compile my wooden box map (called test).
My problem is that it deas’t find the BSP file, i did run BSP/ Q3Map2 (Single) Meta thing!
It doesn’t create the BSP, after i type (Et console):

/sv_pure 0

then

/g_gametype 2

and lastly

/devmap test

and says: Can’t find map maps/test.bsp !!!

WHAT do i DO??

On the other hand; my friend did selected all or the entire map and
he set worldspawn (right-click), in entity inspector, he tries the mapcoordsmins and
maxs and it sais something and wouldn’t let him set it at all. What’s his problem?

(WeeBull) #2

Are you sure the file test.bsp is in etmain/maps?

(carnage) #3

do you get any erros when compiling? like failed becuase of leak?

(The Mysterious) #4

Hmmm, something about junk.txt.

And i don’t where the file may be…

Here:

Writing the compile script to ‘E:/Documents and Settings/Järjestelmänvalvoja/Application Data/RadiantSettings/1.5.0/qe3bsp.bat’
The build output will be saved in ‘E:/Documents and Settings/Järjestelmänvalvoja/Application Data/RadiantSettings/1.5.0/junk.txt’

and bsp found in whole computer! I’m not sure if there’s a leak, it doesn’t say any about that.

Since you’re new…please use an earlier version of Radiant. People like version 1.4 . Version 1.5 (at this point) is for advanced users.
After you try with that version…come back and tell us your problems.

Your friend should not set the worldspawn by right-clicking the 2d grid but rather just by selecting a brush that is not attached to or part of an ‘entity’…it will automatically be the “Worldspawn”.
So after he selects a brush and presses “N” he should see that the brush is already a “Classname”-“Worldspawn” and then he should proceed to enter the settings for mapcoordsmins & mapcoordsmaxs.

Argh, do i hafta? Oh well…

Anyway, you could still tell me the solution for this. :blah:

If you think you’re frustrated now…you have a long painful road ahead of you.
Using 1.4 will alleviate loads of headaches…considering your level of knowledge.

Just get 1.4 and follow tutorials…this site and it’s group of mappers have made it as easy as they/we can make it for new mappers to learn how to use the design tools.

—As for your gripe about not getting an answer…you did not give us enough information to do anything or even think about giving you a real reply.
…when posting, plz give information on:

  1. how you got to the problem
  2. what you’ve tried to clear the problem
  3. and alot more information that makes the details of your situation

Well, okey then, can someone direct me to Gtk Radiant 1.4.0 tutorial?
Is it like same system or any difference i might find?

As for the info about my problem:

1A. I did tell you how i got the problem (maybe a little unclear description).
1B. I did excatly like a tutorial said, when compile and says those things,
however, i didn’t find junk.txt in the folder (where the notice said it to be).
2. I tried by making multiple folders for my test with the map file in,
even renaming the file “test.bsp” and no result.
3. Is this enough? As for you reply, you should except a newbie to want as MANY solutions in a few ways for his/her problem if the questions remain unclear.

Well, let’s calm down, i try that 1.4.0 too, but… 1.5.0 i already got used to 1.5.0 a bit.

you should expect that people have more things to do than solve your problem and if your not willing to help them dont expect them to help yu

ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/qeradiant/GtkRadiant/GtkRadiant-1_4/Windows/GtkRadiantSetup-1.4.0-Q3RTCWET.exe

Theres 1.4.0 Its basicly the same, just a little more compete rather than latest beta.

If your new your best of sticking to tutorials. Heres a list of a few good ones:
http://dersaidin.mercness.net/mapping/index.php?act=tutlink

If you dont understand the tutorials, the best thing you can do is be persistant and try to figure it out yourself. Also seach these forums and the web for help before you post.

The Mysterious, I am HELPING you…don’t make me the victim.

How am I supposed to answer questions that you don’t ask…until you ask them, I cannot answer them.
How am I supposed to know about your problem unless you give specific detail…until I/we get specfic detail, we cannot do anything except give you fixes for what we presume your problem to be.

Now…you may think that you explained your problem well but it really does not let us know exactly what you did and where you may have gone wrong.
We are not sitting next to you watching you learn to map…YOU NEED to tell us everything that will HELP-US to HELP-YOU.

-You will find out as you go that there is alot more to explaining a mapping problem than saying “my map won’t load but I followed tutorials”…
…Do you know how many new mappers make mistakes when following the tutorials ?
I would guess at least 80% miss something and then come here asking VERY obscure questions to get help, then complain when it isn’t easy and then gripe about it all as they go.
-Plz don’t be one of those guys.

If you want help, we are here…again, help us to help you.
(not to mention…“Please” and “thank you” get you MUCH better explanations).

Well, forgive my rudeness. I try 1.4.0 for a while now. :drink:
