Need Videos For ET MOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

(MAD DOG) #1

Hey all you ET and War fans out there I am proud to say that my friend and well known MOD maker “Konigstiger” and I <SS>MADDOG are making a “REALISM MOD” for ET. We have been working on this mod for some time know and are very eager to complete it and make it available for all of you to download. The mod is expected to be bigger than 100 MB in size due to all the sounds.

All the sounds in this mod will be REAL!!!!!! not fake they will be taken from actual audio we recorded or got from videos. So far we have all the ambient sounds and almost all the gun sounds pulse new skins. The ambient sounds are sounds of footsteps, grass brushing up against the player, Thunder, Rain, new Tank / Truck sounds, the Tug sounds (Train sounds), new impact sounds, etc. All theses sounds are real recordings or taken from real videos. We have most of the gun videos but we are missing a few that we really need! The skins are "AS REAL AS IT CAN GET!" they are taken from the actual WW2 pictures and made into ET format this has taken me a long time to make with help from other people. Also all the logos and pins on the uniforms are from actual WW2 uniforms that were worn during WW2. We might change some sounds like when the player dies he calls out "MEDIC!" we will try to change that to moaning sounds so it feels and sounds like he is in pain!

We need your help to get the videos we need in order for this mod to come out or else it will be postponed until we get the videos. If it comes down to it we will maybe go rent the videos then rip the sounds out but that would be a lot of work and time consuming to actually take the video copy it into the PC then rip the sounds better just to get the sounds from the internet if possible. So with your help we need the following gun videos to complete our mod. Thanks a lot for all your help!

Videos of guns we need:

Colt M1911
Lugar
FG42 paratrooper rifle
Flamthrower
M1 Grand
K43 rifle (not sniper)

Thanks alot for your advise and hope that you like it when it comes out!

u know, im sure SD actually used the sounds of a real gun being fired in a controlled enviroment for et.

or am i talking bull again?

I don’t know about that, but reproducing the sound of gunfire is extremely hard. Just because you get a sound off of a recording or video doesn’t mean that it anything like what you would hear if you were standing there.

The sound exceeds the limits of both recording and playback equipment, as well as the safe limits of the human ear. Unless your computer speakers are capable of producing hearing damage, they cannot reproduce the sound (and feeling) of a gun going off at close range.

Going to your local shooting range and renting a colt 1911 clone is highly recommended. :moo:

youd be surprised on how many games dont use real sounds for guns, one of the only games that i know for sure did was call of duty, they took sounds and then treated them to sound a little bit different in the game. as did delta force BHD. i know bf42 didnt use real sounds. and nither did the desert combat mod. i remember reading some article about i think commandos, they actually used pillows for certain gun sounds.

(MAD DOG) #7

NO that is not true no game has ever used real gun sounds for it. The closest game that uses real sounds is COD (Call Of Duty) But they are not real either they are just realy enhanced in sound bites so it sounds real but its not!

(The_Jesus_Zeppelin) #8

yes call of duty did use real gunfire, when i say real i mean modified recordings of gunfire used specifically for movies and or games. im not saying they sey up a studiop and mic and shot some guns! no one has ever done that to my knowledge. i dont think most movies even do that.

I think you can safely say that 99.9% sounds used in games and movies comes from libraries filled with so-called stock sounds.

if you listen closely you can recognize most sounds from movies and games. especially the ones with a smaller budget.

For example, if you listen closely to the background chatter during a certain scene in mission impossible 2 you distictly hear the audience from rollercoaster tycoon. Another good example would be the tesla coil from red alert, that sounds is used left right and center in loads of movies and games.

There is also a very well known door sound that is used in most scifi movies with sliding doors, you recognize it from games like doom or quake.

So rerecording the sounds used in ET is a bit useless, especially if you’re going to recycle sounds from movies which most likely are stock sounds in the first place anyway. Not to mention the legal concequentions (sp?)

(MAD DOG) #10

Ya what do you think the guns from the movies are? They are made up just enhanced sound bits of made up gun shots. And ya i do have to agree with you the COD game did infact use sounds from movies and all but they are not real trust me i wanted to use there sounds from my mod but they said “The sounds used in COD are from movies but are realy enhanced by sound engineers to sound the closest to real guns”. Also the MOD me and Konigstiger are making are the real thing they are infact videos of the gun shooting live ammo and are very high quality and all the rest of the sounds are real live recordings aswell go see my post at RTCWFILES.COM or here at splashdamge. It explanes all the sounds and shit.

You are missing the point. The reason films and games use made-up or doctored sounds is because you cannot reproduce the sounds that guns make just by recording them, any more than $20 diskman ‘reproduces’ a live pink floyd concert. Do you think that a film with a $50 million budget wouldn’t record live gunfire if it sounded better ?

The fact that you are trying to use ‘real live recordings’ does not mean that the end result is any more true to life than the ‘stock’ sounds. Most (if not all) recordings of real gunfire are extremely distorted, due to exceeding the limits of the recording equipment, or the equipments attempts to adjust for the excessive levels.

Seriously, one session at a gun range should convince you that this whole ‘realism’ thing is a hopeless fantasy.

edit:
all that said, I’m an not trying to discourage anyone from making a sound pack for ET, based off of ‘real’ sounds or not.

Ya ok i agree with you but you say my mod is hopless well think again i did go to the gun range to get most of the gun sounds!!! And let me tell you that no they are not distorted if you set up your camera right! And i got the videos today that i needed. My mod will be done in a week and i will do beta testing on it after wards and then i will realse it to the public in a month or so if everything goes well. And there is something called a sound bite man it helps undistort the gun sound. SO i am done with this conversation! GO get my mod in a month or less and then come here and tell me that its hopless after you play it ok. :drink:

bani is da man :stuck_out_tongue:

(Bongoboy) #15

Cheers, Bani, I was trying to find that article.

Yah, kudos again to Infinity Ward for their excellent work on COD.

For ET we just make “Peeyow peeyow” noises with our mouths and used them.

Shame, really.

(kevinski) #16

I knew it!

Anyway, it’d be great if someone made a sound mod based on the sounds kids make when ‘playing guns’ with their friends. You know, just making sounds with your mouths. I think the machine gun ‘eh-eh-eh-eh-eh’ sound would be great. Or people yelling ‘boom’ for explosions. Then add voicechats for “Hey, I hit you! You’re dead!”, as well as a response such as, “Nuh uh! You missed!” Maybe even a follow-up, “Liar! I hate you!”

(The_Jesus_Zeppelin) #17

that weoulda been good for that XIII game. they already have the booom fly acroos the screen when you use a gernade! sombody should do that with XIII its made with u script. wont be hard. GO DO IT!
