I disagree with this.

Devs should spend more time on netcode, maps, objectives, weapons mechanics, merc balance, team balance, etc etc…

COD and BF features don’t have a place in this kind of environment… imo of course.

I would love to see some weapon customization maybe even a decal maker for guns. So you could really personalize your guns.

I remember when i first played the Beta (think it was about 7 months ago or more), you could customize the weapon only by changing skins on them. The skins was looking good but i really don’t think that skins etc. fits in to Dirty Bomb that much.
But sure, some skins could be fun to have, aslong as they don’t do like Valve did with CS:GO im fine with it.

Me too i think that skins wouldn’t fit into the game. Instead i’d really like to see crates with few badges to put on the weapons, like cs:go. I think that feature is nice and adds more customization without breaking the game (add-ons and weapon-mod, i highly dislike them) or having atmosphere-breaking skins on weapons

I don’t see how you can make a generalized statement that gun skins wouldn’t fit in the game… It all depends on the type of skin. Sure, I wouldn’t want to see brightly colored silliness, but anything a professional merc could reasonably want on his/her weapons is fair game in my opinion:

 • tactical black
 • pretty much any “real” camo pattern (by “real” I mean that can actually camouflage something in a real environment somewhere, not hot pink DPM…)
 • alternate stock materials (wood, synthetic, carbon fiber)
 • decals, graffiti, kill marks, etc…

And when you get into handguns, you can go a little more crazy with chrome or gold platting and all sorts of exotic materials and engravings for the grip.

None of that would break the style of the game or the premise of the backstory. Even camo patterns that are not suitable for an urban environment can still make sense if you consider we’re talking about mercs here: they may be in London today, but were in a jungle last week and will be in a desert next week, and they might not care to repaint their weapons every few days

You mentioned very well made ideas for skins, i admit it that i fully agree with you at this point, it’s true, camo materials, tatcical black and decals would be pretty decent. The skins i actually dislike are the dumb ones (pink pattern, anti-militar pattern etc), the one you usually see in DLC of some certain games

(Nail) #8

we had skins earlier, pretty sure they’ll be in the store

There used (is it still implemented I havent been in the beta for 2 years.) to be gun customization based on different player character skins, this ranged from different camos, to different metals and even a NERF color which made guns, knives, swords and even a trusty cricket bat yellow and blue after the toys of the company by the same name; dont really find the idea of letting a player make their own design worth it, as Steve mentioned theres more important matters at hand and also someone somewhere will most likely use this to make immature designs rather than something interesting.

So here is my thought on the customization of weapons in this game…

I like it, but it needs to be done in a certain fashion for a game such as DB. Lets face it everyone likes to have a level of customization if not for any other reason besides making something a little more personal and making you stick out as “that player with the sweet swag!” EX: any Valve game with fancy hats other can see in game.

But we must remember this isnt a Valve game, its not dota with various skins, or csgo where you can pick up another persons gun and look at how fancy it looks (csgo has a look at gun button, bc you have time to waste int hat game)
In DB you would need something that can makes you feel like you are weilding something personal, yet unobtrusive enough it doesnt distract form the game besides the occasional player giving props on your sweet skin. Another thing to think about is the guns in DB as a bit more intricate and have more to them then the relatively flat sided guns in say csgo making designing them a bit trickier. I also think the crate and key drop with a random skin inside is a bit meehhhhh especially when actually money is involved.

As someone mentioned earlier there was a skin that made them colored like nerf toy guns, which IMHO great and it makes a stylistic FPS have a little bit more fun with itself. But if you change the actual model of the gun, say making one of the ARs look like a 90s super soaker, i think thats a bit too much. Reason being mercs can have a set of different guns and when you see that you identify what you need to do. If everything looks like a super soaker it confuses the fact.

As for modifications and customization for weapon attachments, ill leave that to the devs. Outside of anything cosmetic (different red dots for instance) there will need to be balancing in an already deep world.

As a side note since the game is also on steam, steam workshops can be integrated and used as a way to get the community involved. Although i said I wouldnt pay to open a crate for random skins, if there was a “community skins pack” where you get a bunch of nice skins for a couple of dollars, i would look into that. Reason being it supports the community, and i know what im getting as its not random.

Thinking of the medals and stickers they have in CSGO i have another idea.

I think the sticker idea may not be best as once again the weapons in DB have much more dimension than they do in csgo so you never get a flat image. But how about something like wax seals? Just small circles with ribbons you can choose to put on your weapon, nothing fancy but something that can be easily distinguished at a glance while in the game. Different color ribbons can represent different things such as amount of kills with a certain gun, or revives as a medic. It can be used as a sort of in game stat tracker. imagine wielding the cricket bat with a seal and ribbon waving on the end showing how deadly you are with it. You can even make ribbons or seals for the merc to show how much game time you have, if you were and early beta tester etc etc.

As an example, this is what im imagining when i think of these wax seals and ribbons.

I think Adultaory Telescope, and Steve Martin are both right. First it should be playable which goes along the lines of what Steve Martin is saying. Then it should keep you playing which is what Telescope is saying. Both are very important, and no one said they can’t. Cant only sets limits!!! B)

(Shadowfury45) #13

within the lines of both for and against the weapon skins, they would add a nice addition to customizing your weapons. but as for sights and magazines (etc) the game would be too similar to Brink… then how would you be able to get the gear unless of random drops or shops?

(xMrMeow) #14

If we’re talkin only gun skins like csgo I’d be fine with that; I’d rather have a free game be completely free of stuff that actually makes a difference that you can buy and with stuff like crates and gun skins you can buy rather than having classes I have to either grind for or pay real money to unlock; I don’t mind it that much but i know plenty of people that would choose to not play a game at all if it has that pay or grind stuff.

Kinda surprised to see so many people hating on the CS:GO style skins lol. I’ve always thought they had the coolest skins in that game plus you can actually inspect your gun while you’re playing. In any case, I’d really like to see skins whether they be realistic like a lot of you guys want or more like CS or maybe a bit of both.
