Need some more modeling/skinning help

(Way2Evil) #1

Hi, it’s me again.
Ok, I got the head working now.
But i found some other problems that i don’t seem to solve on my own.

  1. Weapon skinning. I made a cool MDC file (witch worked fine in RTCW)
But I cant seen to get any texture on it.
It just shows like the black/yellow no texture what ever I try.
Has any one got a usefull tip on how to solve this??
    (I use Milkshape and 3Dstudio Max 4.2)

  2. I made the head just fine now (MD3) skin is working good and all.
But the head you see at the buttom of your screen has a green, blue and red "axis) (X, Y and Z axis)
Did I do something wrong with the MD3 file?? :banghead:
Or is there something I must/can do to change this??

ty allready.

Did you add hudHead <head model> in the character definition file and if so checked so it’s correct?

Just a guess based on the info released.

(Way2Evil) #3

Yes I have changed the hud head to my md3 file name.

hudhead “models/players/hud/head001.md3”

But the head in the normal game is fine.
But the head in the buttom of the screen has those weird X, Y and Z axis with brigth colors :S
not really a pretty sight…

Any one else who knows something??

Does the head have the correct animations? Any load warnings on the console?

BTW, don’t bother with MDC unless you are really really pressured for memory.

(Way2Evil) #5

I don’t know if he gives any load warnings in the console (think not)
But my head is a basic RTCW md3 (no eyes or anything)
So he doesn’t have much to animate (there are no animations with that head in ET)

I wish I couldn’t bother with mdc :frowning:
But if you want to change the wapens models (knife) It is in a MDC file :frowning:
Can I replace that MDC for an MD3??? :expressionless:
I will give it a try.

still havent got any luck with the hud head :frowning:

I made a screen shot with the problem showing (you see this all the time)

Thnx. Greetz Way2Evil

I encoutered the same problem when I was testing the custom helmet models.
I can not clearly remember how I resolved it, though by my poor memory, the .skin file or something to difine the texture file is required for almost models( md3, mdm, mdc ).
Thus I would sugget you to make sure that you have the .skin file and its descriptions are correct. Additonally the width of the graphic for model texture must be multiples of 64, such as 6464, 256128, 512*512.

I wish this could help you, good luck.

oops i forgot this:
You made the head model with no animation and replaced it as the HUD head.
So did you change the .anim file descriptions and definitions which is refered by .char file?
It defines the start and end frame number of md3 animation for character emotion.
Your HUD model has 0 frames, but original HUD model has over 1000 frames and they are assigned by .anim file.
I think you have to check it.

I encountered the same problem, i think its something to do with the MD3 exporter in Milkshape. I’m currently using Max 5 and haven’t encountered the same glitch, yet!..

(Way2Evil) #12

Yeah I see now.
It must be Milkshape 3D.
But now I have exported the md3 with 3d studio max 4.2 and now you see totaly nothing where the head should be in the buttom
The head on the character is still normaly there.
I have 3d Studio max 6, but nog export MD3 plugin for it :frowning:
Any 1 knows if it is there or where i can get it??
