NEED SHADERS

(Terzin1) #1

Anyone know where to get a water shader for player to swim in, as well as a flickering light possibly? Also need a tutorial on how to make doors. but mailny the shaders. THAKNKS!!!

flickering light is not a shader its a dynamic light

the water is in the textures>liquids folder

are you new to mapping or rtcw mapping? if so i can point you t some good tutorials to get the basics of mapping, if you have experience of other games then you may want to start at a bit more advanced level

yea im new, you guessed. Ha. But ive figured out alot of building stuff, but im not sure how shaders interact with the environment. Im trying to figure out how i can make one of those grates that you can bust in with your foot, or other breakable stuff like chairs and things. The water ive already figured out but the texture doesnt appear for the no draw one so i looks like shit with blocks. thats why i need another liquid.

ok first, i think you are looking for texture, a shader is a file that acompanies a texture to give it special qualaties like liquidity (prob not a real word)

the no draw liquid acts like a liquid but just dowsnt have a visible texture so its like invisble water, you want to make all water out fo this then place you visble water texture on top otherwise you draw unesisary surfaces

if i could be as bold as to give you some advice, i think when everyone started mapping they all wanted to jum stright in and make the next beach with breakable everything etc but its realy best if you take it one step at a time… concentrate of perfecting one thing then more onto something else

and i found when learning to script that building lots of small test/tutorial maps helped… when i wanted to recap something i could just go back to the map and see how i did it… you could try making some for water (just a room with a pool of water in it to start)

Yes, that’s a good advice that helped me when I was new. To build so called testmaps. A large room with one or two new things that you want to test for the first time. It could be water, lights, doors, Mgs whatever.

yeah, ive not been trying to make a playable level yet but just been messing around with the features of the software. Ive spent alot of time just making small things like doors and stairs. Now im just trying to get the textures down and some easy shaders (like breakable grates)Thanks for the help tho guys.

if i can offer more advice… leave the custom textures/shaders for a while

they are more the job of a texture artist than a mapper, ime not saying mappers shouldnt be alowed to learn this but when you have made a level or two you realy get a gript of tectures sizes rotations etc

and making your own good quilits scroling textures is hard, time consuming and will slow you map production right down

EDIT/ btw i just wanted to say good luck and hope you get the hang of it. ime glad some1 is mapping for rtcw besides me and it. as far as learning the basics rtcw is defintly the best place to start
