Need help transferring RTCW models to ET and ET's ranks!

(MADDOG) #1

Hello,

I need some help, I made some new skins for axis and i want to make the ranks show up on the arms not the helmets, how can i do that?

Also i want to import the RTCW models so i can put the pouches and belts on the models then have them act like a backpack with the ET models. Iif you can help me with that please pm me!

This is all going to the mod Live Fire so if you want to be part of the mod please pm me with your skills and what you can help with.

Come on there have to be some people who can help! I am too tied up right now with my work and other things with the mod!

If you’re too tired, just screw the mod. :eek2:
Also, I think you will need the permission from id to use RtCW models in an Enemy Territory mod. You know, the copyright thing is also law in Poland.

At the moment I think the rank models are attached to the “tag_mouth” on the player model (same tag as the helmet). Adding a new tag is possible - you’d need to add it to the model and someone would have to set it up in the code to draw the rank model on the new tag (probally cg_players.c) - So if you aren’t programming for the mod one of the guys who is would need to do that part.

The other option is having different *.skin files for each rank - but that would also require a programmer to make the game choose the right skin.

WTF are you talking about? All you need to do is change CG_DrawPlayerHead() so that it will will place the ranks on the arm, there’s plenty of tags already (i.e. tag_armright could be used).

LOL, Thanks bacon! Also ET is the same game as RTCW but an extension so i think i can use the RTCW models in ET! and it wont be considered copyright. :drink:

Sorry, I haven’t touched the tags much at all (didn’t realise there was a tag_armright  ), and my mod isn’t likely to have the ranks drawn at all.
I’d just thought I’d read that the rank was a model being drawn on the same tag as the helmet.

ET is such an extention of RtCW, but another software and does have differenet copyrights from RtCW’s. RtCW is not free. SD guys are so gentle that they may let us to use RtCW data in ET, but we have to keep copyrights in mind.

SD did no work on RtCW, therefore they have no authority over it. You’d need to get permission from Activision/ID/etc.

Bacon is right, SD has nothing to do with RtCW (except the GOTY Map Pack). Also ET is NOT an expansion to RtCW, but its a seperate game that is based on RtCW. This copyright issue has been discussed over and over and over here in the forums and it was always pointed out, that RtCW and ET aren’t the same game and you are not allowed to transfer any models/textures and stuff from one game to the other without violating the copyright law.
If you want to make a real MOD, use your skills to model anything on your own.

The rank insignia are decal-type shaders on an extra “panel” added to the front of the helmet model - They are a part of the helmet model, not a separate entity. In order to put them on the sleeves, you’ll need to make several sleeve skins with the different insignia on, and exchange them instead of the helmet ones. I think if you do it that way, you’ll not need to mess around with the models at all, just the skins and the code.

WRT the pouches, as others have said, you can’t legally use RtCW’s models in ET.
