imo samsung has the best monitors, I have a 22" a 24" and I just ordered a 37" tv from samsung.

I say get a 22" minimum, 27" maximum. depends on how much you are willing to spend.
Maybe you should take a look around, then post when you’ve found something you like, then we can give advice if it’s any good or not

I have:
22" Syncmaster 223BW (my old screen)
24" Syncmaster T240HD (bought last year for ±250 euros I think, very good quality)

This is what a friend of mine said on the matter recently:

does it have to be lcd? i’ve got 50" lg 50pk250 plasma. recommended, but lacks headphone slot (i was stunned when i discovered that!)

looool 50" pc screen hahaha that’s pretty epic   but not very good to work on imo.

My opinion on plasma is that they don’t show light colors very well, the fuildness of the pictures isn’t great unless you pay a few thousand and they use alot of power.

when u sit too close than yeah, it’s not good, but if u keep proper distance then it’s great. 1920x1080 working resolution. colors are very good, no problems at all… and power usage? could be higher… but i don’t use it 24/7 so i can’t say much.

If you want to buy cheap display, there is almost none difference between low-end displays - in case of of displaying things. (differences are only in ergonomy, design, …)

However, there is few of them where is difference really noticeable.

For example, my shopping in Planeo:
There was about ten low-end displays (20 - 23 inches) including Ausus, LG, Acer and BenQ. Their price was something like from 3000 up to 6000 Kč (120 - 240 €).

There was almost unnoticeable difference in their poor displayed images. However, there was one really different from each other (including other LGs!).
It was LG W2043S-PF 20.1’’. Against others, it has outstanding contrast and great view angles. Color rendering is also slightly better.

From these I’ve seen, LG W2043S-PF displays image that good as three-times more expensive displays. In Czech, it can be bought for ~2700 Kč. (108 €; see Zbozi.cz).

Beware, there are two models of LG W2043S-PF - model A and model B. One is only D-sub capable (analog) and other one has also DVI (digital).

Some another tips ?
What I saw
Good branch of monitors for graphics - Acer , Asus , Iiyama , Dell , Benq

(IndyJones) #13

i doubt that you are so advanced user to actually see important diffrences between monitors… pretty much everything will work very well, within ur price range. and i guess in most cases u can buy what u like, test it and if u don’t like it - return.

I decided for this

NEC e222w 22 lcd monitor here http://www.retrevo.com/s/NEC-E222W-Monitors-review-manual/id/23480bh333/t/1-2/

2nd candidate is this 23 NEC E231w , here http://www.nejlevnejsipocitace.cz/shop/nec-e231w-23-lcd-stribrnobily-p-77106.html?zenid=e521b188f19cccb961680f7ef91ecb5f

Cant decide if 23 will better for mapping and modeling than 22

22 monitor have bigger pixel, dont sure if its suitable for graphics work

(Indloon) #15

Hmm…
In this case of money, you coulded have 26 inch monitor.

(Kic) #16

Mappers , modelers your monitors ? - talk please .
Now my PC is good - changed motherboard - this was doing me problems , but still finding good monitor for all - playing games, modeling, mapping

Ask the guys at Splash what they use

A large widescreen one will do you just fine. Sadly I’m stuck with a 19" 4:3 monitor which sucks, I have some massive fancy widescreen monitor at work and it’s great to use for modeling and drafting with.
