NDA lifted but no way to play?

Why if the NDA was lifted, did it not coincide with open beta or key distribution?

Now you just have a bunch of people seeing friends/streamers play with no good way to play it themselves, not to mention the regional issues. I appreciate being able to see the game, but usually unrestricted/uncontrolled broadcasting means it’s now open for play. Just wondering. …

Restricting access while people can see it probably builds up the hype a bit.

also “NBA” in title.

As far as I recall, while lifting NDAs have, in recent times, coincided with open beta, it’s by no means a given that the two go hand in hand.

I imagine various reasons can be behind it, be it to add to the hype as Rimmorn points out, or because content is in place but server-stability and/or general game-testing is not - which would call for a controlled introduction of more players.

Additionally, the recent trend is also that players consider “Open Beta” by and large the same as “Released [but still working on it]”, due to which any stability or performance issue is inevitably construed as the “game being bad”, rather than “still in development”.
