The nickname Vassili for a sniper is clearly a reference to legendary WW2 Russian sniper Vassili Zaitsev.

Just leaving this wiki article about him here.
(next sniper (after Aimee) has to be named Simo or Häyhä ^^ )
Why am I not surprised that the sniper with the most recorded kills would be a Finn during the Winter War… >:)
Maybe Bushwhacker is an Aussie, but raised in the US? But I think he’s not an Aussie.
I think people mistake bushwhacker for an australian simply because he has a similar hat to the sniper of TF2.
However I believe that Blain from Predator, is the true inspiration.

He even has the same dimple in his chin and both wear a bandana under their hat. Twins separated at birth?
Wow, yeah. The similarity definitely strikes me as more than coincidental.
THUNDER and SPARKS are russian the thunder has a line where he responds да (da) meaning yes in russian and also sparks sometimes shouts УРА!! (URA) which is a russian battle cry or just meaning hurray !!
the PHEONIX is spanish he says adios! (good bye) and man no ! (which i forgot meaning)
STOKER appears to be simply english and some how he appears to be a reference to video game S T A L K E R which takes place in chernobyl nuclear dieaster zone and his standard loadout (timik ) or AK rifle and gas mask suggests this . i think it’s a reference since dirtybomb is also set in lodon after nuclear fall out here is comparison :http://stalker.wikia.com/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:_Call_of_Pripyat?file=CoP_Cover.jpg
ARTY - chinese he says ni hao when sellected which everyone knows meaning .
PHANTOM is american and he has a nice calm voice and it’s my second favourite after THUNDER .
if you identified something interesting pls let me know but so far this is all i can find and think of .
Red Eye is the only Aussie character I know of in the game, but he does say “Aww Yiss” like a damn Kiwi. An Aussie would more than likely say Aww Yeah instead but would sound nothing like an american. I’m an Aussie and lived in Canada for 4 years, I even had to change how I said my own name as they couldnt understand me.
Merc nationalities we need:
Canadian Medic, apologises constantly when killing
New Zealander
Philippines person, quite a strong accent there
An Irish person would be kind of cool
South African, or just African, cos the accent is also quite thick.

New Zealander, Doesn’t Australian cover that? Maybe a bit of a Maori assault like Tai from Gears of War?

I imagine that Bushwhacker was southern born, and ended up moving to Detriot or some shit to teach highschool kids engineering. My headcannon is that he was pretty good at his job too, helping to pull the bottom of the barrel students out of the gutters until whatever dramatic events involving the “unloaded gun” mentioned in his lore lead him into merc work.
Granted I tend to assume positive things about characters I like. I like Bushwhacker.
Just wanna add if anyone knows anything about Javelin? I heard they were in Closed Beta but I could be wrong. I remember someone said they could be European.
Also speaking of Aimee, based off her dialogue “Shiekh? Chic? I cannot tell you what you call me” along with her olive skin tone and sharp facial features, she could come from an Arabic French background, plus the second largest demographic in France (besides French people) are Arab.
And besides the merc nationalities, does anyone know if there’s a specific nationality for the Commanders? Dirty Bomb seems to have hired voice actors with similar ethnic backgrounds to their characters, so maybe the dude Commander (Edward Stern) is British and the lady Commander (Indira Varma) is Indian/Swiss/Italian mix?
