Nasty lighting

(DeatH) #1

How do i get rid of the dark line in my map WITHOUT adding light to it?

I say without light as when lit the terrain has slightly different coloured triangles on it.

At the moment i am using minlight 8

Any suggestions ?

Looks like a lighting bug to me or some freak shader incident. Maybe it’s gone when you regenerate the lightmaps?

Regaenrate ligrmenwe… huh?

Sorry i don’t know what you mean?

If not too much of a problem, try to do a whole BSP -Meta, BSP -vis and BSP -light compile cycle. The first step should remove old lightmaps.

I’ve also seen this in a few cases where the shader did it. (Caused by some statement like q3map_lightmap_mergeable I think.)

Sometimes bad brushes will compile black. It could also be insufficent detail in the lightmap, or your terrian is possibly getting split into two different lightmaps and the black line is the edge. A few things to try are:

  1. Run brush cleanup.
  2. Increase your lightmap size.
  3. Group all of your terrain pieces together into a func_group to encourage Light to put them on one lightmap page.
  4. Or, just group together the brushes in the bad area and then increase the lighting quality by adding key/values of _lightmapscale/.5. Or maybe even a value of .25.

would also be helpful to post the shaders to see how they are setup,
the lightmap_mergable is meant to merge terrain shadows into one lightmap
so it can give seamless shadows…

i’d say post the shaders for the terrain your using so we can see whats
happening.
