By the way, that link to Hummer’s site should be:
n00b to Radiant...concerning the author of the manual :)
Yea, I search 3dbuzz.com for “Quake” “Radiant” and “GtkRadiant” with Google site search. Nothing. Then, I clicked on “tutorials” on the menu. It asked me what product I wanted a tutorial for. There was NO GtkRadiant or any map editor for that matter. They were all Bryce 5 and thse type of programs. It said that if the product wasn’t listed to “click here”. Well, I clicked on the link and it opened Outlook Express. :???:
But that doesn’t matter anyway, I’ve finally figured all this out. I still have one prob: I can run my map with the BSP -meta compile. but if I try to compile the map with a more complex compile to add lights, Radiant encounters a prob and has to close. :eek3:
Yes, I agree they’re hard to find. It’s a crying shame they spent so long on creating such great detailed video tutorials, about 3 hours worth explaining everything a new user could hope for, and then they HIDE them on a bastad-design of a site. I actually visted there 3 times and gave up twice, it was only on my third visit after I had been assured the videos really did exist, that I had the persistance to find them.
First off the site is in frames so no linking to individual pages, that makes it hard to pass around the URL. Then they don’t have the videos listed anywhere, and they don’t show up in a search. Maybe they don’t want anybody to actually find them?
What I had to do, was register, then login, then click on the right-hand graphic on the main page (the one about video manuals) then read their help/FAQ page. About halfway down the page one of the questions is ‘where can I order the videos’… then it (finally) tells you how to get them. You can either have them sent to you on CD, or it also gives you the download link. On this link are all the listed videos, and Quake3/Radiant is on there.
It’s worth finding trust me. I already knew how to use Radiant but there were still a few things (the selection tools for example) that I didn’t fully understand, and this explaind it perfectly.
If anyone goes to 3dbuzz forums or speaks to anyone there, tell them to fix their site up, it’s a nightmare for finding anything.
