my verdict after playing this game for about two months

Hello

I have always respected Splash Damage very much. The ET games were straight awesome (and still are).
After initial performance problems with Brink (which were very frustrating) that could be halfway resolved by upgrading my CPU (turns out it wasn’t my Radeon6870) I was able to get into the game.

However, it became more frustrating.

 1. Heavies are completely useless. Because 80% of the players are those “HURR DURRR I PLAY LIGHT WITH A BULPDAUN OR CARB9 AND RUN AROUND LIKE A CHICKEN DERP DERP” and headshot you before you even realized it. The Machine Guns suck sort of too, their recoil is just too damn big.

Sidenote: Heavies are beefier, so they should suffer less from Recoil, but they don’t.

 1. I have to complete “challegnes” to unlock stuff? Seriously? I can’t get access to dat sniper rifle without completing “parkour this”`? Which brings me to the next point.

 2. That SMART thing is utter fail. It feels very anti intuitive, as if you were a sponge running around in an oiled up bath tub (which is why I would prefer the heavy class, if only they were any good).

 3. Mediums are meh-meh. They have more health but less speed. The former doesn’t help much and the latter is a big disadvantage against the Light HURR DURR CARB9 players.

 4. The weapons are awful. All I see are CARB9 and KROSS lamers. Who can blame them, the other weapons are useless. Gotlung sounds awesome, looks awesome but couldn’t hit a polar bear if he stood 50cm in front of you.

If Splash Damage wants to keep me playing this game they should bring out a patch to address this issue soon. A small glimpse on the threads on these forums here tells me that I’m not alone.

The game is incredibly frustrating and unbalanced (inb4: HURR DURR you ain’t pro you know nothing about balance).

Wolfenstein and QW were frustrating to the extent that it’s always those damn medics (strogg technician with free health+ammo and spawn points are even worse) that dominate the game because they’re hurr durrr i killed you and i have hp left, derp derp brb heal+ammo.

BRINK however feels worse. People quickly figured out how to lame. The only thing that BRINK does right is that everyone heals automatically, not an attribute exclusively reserved for medics (seriously, in EVERY game medics should absolutely not be able to heal themselves).

I don’t care if Splash Damage is going to bring the game to balance or not, but I will certainly be reluctant to buy any other mutliplayer games from either SD, iD or Bethesda. Other games do have balance, if even Treyarch can do it right, why can’t you, SD?

/rant over.

Hilarious summary of known issues. What would happen if SD did like a Reverse Power week where they tested out nerfing ONLY the Light Body Type? Mass chaos? Or would it balance the game out better? In other words, make Light’s ONLY advantage speed and climbing ability. Cut their HPs in half. Their guns could be pea shooters especially the SMGs. Since I am reduced to playing Brink in private matches to find stronger comp. Since we are guinea pigs at this point anyway, is something like that worth testing out for a week in the wild?

no.

dont think that heavies are as useless as made out - some folk seem to expect them to literally be able to just stand upto a full smg clip to the face…plenty of times i’ve seen heavies dominate when they know where to park their ass for the most affect.
1) Heavies are completely useless.

Some people do just fine with heavies. A bit slow for my taste, but they can be effective. As far as lights running around with Carb9s or Bulpdauns, there’s really only so many weapons that Lights can carry, and I’ve seen them using everything from Tampas to Barnetts (though I do run my light with a Bulpdaun and scoped Ritchie ). And while you may say they’re running around “like a chicken,” the whole point of the Lights is their speed and maneuverability. Some people just want to be able to use SMART to its fullest.

Sidenote: Heavies are beefier, so they should suffer less from Recoil, but they don’t.

Good point.

 1. I have to complete “challegnes” to unlock stuff? Seriously? I can’t get access to dat sniper rifle without completing “parkour this”`? Which brings me to the next point.

I’d much rather do a few challenges (which I finished the day after I bought the game) to get all the unlocks than have to grind away for weeks or months to get every little gun and attachment.

 1. That SMART thing is utter fail. It feels very anti intuitive, as if you were a sponge running around in an oiled up bath tub (which is why I would prefer the heavy class, if only they were any good).

I think SMART is one of the best things about the game. I can understand PC players taking issue with the “one-key-to-rule-them-all” thing," but overall I think it’s a success. Once in a while I’ll start to mantle something I don’t intend to, but it’s become pretty rare. However, I do think some of the map design could have been improved to take better advantage of SMART (especially since I’ve gone back to playing Borderlands over the last couple days for a change of pace. I look at some of their map designs and keep thinking “why don’t that have a map/area like that in Brink?”).

 1. Mediums are meh-meh. They have more health but less speed. The former doesn’t help much and the latter is a big disadvantage against the Light HURR DURR CARB9 players.

They can also carry assault rifles and secondary SMGs. I do enjoy the maneuverability of the Lights, but I also like packing a Rockstedi/Gerund and Kross/Bulpdaun/Carb9, and I’d rather have an SMG for my Downed Fire than my Ritchie (though it is entertaining to nail someone in the nuts with the Ritchie as they stand over your nearly-dead body).

 1. The weapons are awful. All I see are CARB9 and KROSS lamers. Who can blame them, the other weapons are useless. Gotlung sounds awesome, looks awesome but couldn’t hit a polar bear if he stood 50cm in front of you.

Lots of people do quite well with the LMGs. Rockstedi and Gerund are great, Ritchie is great, Bulpdaun is great. Some folks love the EZ and Lobster. I’ve been owned by shotgunners and Barnett/Droganov snipers. There might be a few losers in the arsenal, but the Carb9 and Kross are hardly the only useful guns.
I’d say giving the mediums and heavies a recoil bonus would be a good start. the heavier the player, the better he should be able to control his guns. makes up for their shortcomings.

(inb4 bla bla only pro players are allowed to talk about balance)

why ?

10chars?

I think the heavy is too much like the light. EDIT: NOT LIGHT! MEDIUM!

And the recoil should be nerfed a little (For light and medium weapons), along with the parkour, health buffed.

BUT THE GUNS DO a LOT of DAMAGE!

But I’m a good heavy. I stopped complaining a while ago.

Okay I’m gonna be honest here. the game is neither crap or good. the good is the concept. however there are a lot of bad’s. most of these have been said before. like before wen this game came out, there were so many trailers with running, jumping, u know all the good stuff and HEAPS of customization for the weapon. and then brink comes out and the maps don’t utilize the parkouring, not many attachments and not much weapon customizations (maybe there will be more as DLC - but we have to buy them? screw that!) and I have to admit, the AI is pretty dam bad. Like they don’t know their priorities. with 1 minute left, they go capture the command post instead of helping and like capturing the main goal - like its pretty bad. and another thing is the weapons. all the weapons are pretty much the same but have different names and slightly different attributes. one weird thing is the damage the shotgun is capable of, for some reason its weaker then most of the other guns. i could go on for ages but SD, just fix these:

the AI and either change or introduce new maps where the parkouring is utilized. I have only played this game like for 3 hours i think, and i never played again. maybe fixing those things might get more people idk. Oh and maybe one more thing which i see will be gud but i don’t think you guys will do is to have a team deathmatch. like to be honest, i reckon it was so stupid not to put team deathmatch into a game where they’re are guns and parkouring and classes.

Just to clarify: You were frustrated by W:ET and ET:QW and you still bought Brink?

I can see why you use the word “derp” so much.

Oh, and I’ve posted it before but compare the stats on the Gotlung to the stats on the CARB-9.

Their previous games did not have Team Deathmatch. TF2 does not have Team Deathmatch. The Batlefield games (until recentl;y) did not have Team Deathmatch. Not all shooters have to have Team Deathmatch, and it is usually the games that have classes that do not… perhaps you should broaden your horizons and experience more games.

I just wanted to point out that I really hate medic players. What they lack in skill they make up with health packs. DERP!
