So launch night I head up to gamestop, where I see a fairly large line for this game. I had my doubts as to if Brink was worth my $60, but seeing all of these people was rather reassuring. So my friends and I get our copies and head home. Little did I know how disappointed I was going to be.
My main issue with this game is surprisingly not the HORRENDOUS LAG (which I can assure you, makes the game absolutely unplayable), because I’m sure this can be and will be fixed with a patch or two. It’s not the fact that almost every gun shoots the same. It’s not the fact that the game is so unclear on EVERYTHING YOU DO. It’s not even the fact that I feel like Splash Damage had some of the most false marketing ever either. It’s the fact that Brink is the most unbalanced piece of crap I’ve EVER PLAYED.
Seriously this had been one of the most rage inducing games of my entire life. Never on any console have I been so pissed while playing a video game. One level in particular, where you play as security and you have to stop the missile from being launched at the Ark. MY GOD, WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING. This map is so heavily leaned towards the resistance it’s practically a joke. If you’ve played it, you know what I’m talking about. The first objective of getting the crane repaired is somewhat challenging. The fact that the resistance can easily put up two barricades blocking almost any logical path into the objectives location is fair. But the spawn system. Jesus Christ what the hell is with the spawns. If they down your team, you have to run a LONG distance back to be able to try to funnel in through two narrow entrances again. I mean, the question begs to be asked, WHY CAN’T WE SPAWN FROM THE COMMAND POST THAT WE’VE CAPTURED?!?! WHAT’S THE INCENTIVE?!
Now if by some ridiculous luck, your team manages to get the crane repaired, you now faces one of the most insane objectives ever. Hacking the missile is near impossible. I mean the location might as well be the resistance’s spawn location. The enemy team is infinite, while you must run a 5k marathon to get back and try it again. Even with the most coordinated team, this objective is brutal. Your slowly hacking the box up to almost 50% but then…HERE COMES THE WHOLE ENEMY TEAM YET AGAIN, RIGHT AROUND THE FREAKING CORNER! The feeling of watching that percentage bar drop back down to 0% is easily the most frustrated I’ve felt in a long time. They’re are only two ways to win map as security. Playing a team of absolute retards, or a miracle.
This game is just flat out unbalanced. I wouldn’t give it the worst review, because to be honest, when you do manage to have fun, you have a lot of fun. Brink has it’s good moments, but the problem is that it has 4x as many bad ones.
