I just went ahead and got him today as all the mercs I don’t have are 50,000 except for him, and I just binged hard on cases so…that’s that. :lol:
Anyway, I’ve never been too fond of Vassili players myself, but good ones have always had my respect. After a game or two of breaking even (yes, I’m bad), I sort got the hang of him. He’s actually really fun to play and fairly valuable when aggressively used.
Frankly his spotting grenade is really strong at the moment as you can easily throw it somewhere where it can’t be shot and spot the whole enemy team through a wall. The resupply buff was not necessary.
I have a (hideous) bamboo card with a revolver, and machine pistols trump it every time as far as usability goes. It seriously is not a reliable weapon to use and makes every card that doesn’t have a machine pistol subpar.
Sniping is actually really fun, but the whole cycling the action thing that snipers share with shotguns is really annoying. Pulling off quick CQC shots, finishing off someone, and then yanking the sniper out again to deal with a second only to find you have to put a new bullet in (and then proceeding to die horribly as you flail like a dolphin) is one of the more frustrating things I’ve encountered in the entire game. I’d be really happy if this could be either removed, or just made a lot more obvious.
Also, a bit of gloating from me, but I actually got a midair collateral headshot on an Aura and someone else which was absolutely amazing. It’s quite possibly the funniest (and most satisfying) thing I’ve done in-game all weekend.
I didn’t dare join the Min 10 lobbies because I know I’m nowhere near skilled enough to actually be of value to my team over me playing something I’m good at (Kira, Fletcher, etc) but I found Vassili capable enough even without the jump shots.
I’m not aware of how amazing Vassili was back when jump shotting was viable, but I felt like I performed well enough just strafing. I actually managed to dink an Aura while doing this absurd jump off a pipe, but it definitely wasn’t as easy as the old jump shooting looked (from the DB cups when he still gibbed).
All in all, Vassili is really fun to play, but a bit of a PSA to people who do play him: throw the motion sensor as much as possible somewhere where it is actually useful. That thing is amazing right now and is wasted on all the level 5s that either don’t even know it exists or just toss it at their feet so they don’t get their poor itty bitty kill streaks (oh no not my kill streak what ever shall I doooooo) ended by a quick hug from the back (I give free hugs!).
