My rank or higher?

(Sibear) #1

Ok. I was trying to play coop with my mate last night (he only just got the game) and even though he was setting up the game as coop with my rank or higher enabled it wouldn’t let my level 18 character join? What gives?

(Kurnuttaja) #2

Same here I cant join my bros game neither, it seems that the setting is bugged like many other stuff in this game.

I posted a thread elsewhere suggesting there’s another option added that ignores rank filtering and sets it by default. It just fractures the community further and is unnecessary IMO.

I left a game I was in with a mate to spend my level 20 point* but couldn’t rejoin - “rank too high”. So I made a new char - “rank too low”. Pffft WTF.

*Why I need to leave a game to do this frontend only task is beyond me in the first place.

Yeah, I just had this same experience, which is why I’m on the forums waiting for my wife to level up to 20 instead of playing, because I can’t get back into the game we were in after I exited to spend my level 20 point.

I’m on PS3.

I have found that when playing with my mates we always make sure the highest rank invites. This always works for us.

(Sibear) #6

But if the highest rank invites then that is backwards!! It’s supposed to be my rank or higher. Thanks though Brinkmeup, I’ll give that a try. I was totally useless trying to help my mate on his campaign which he started on medium () with my noob character. At least it keeps all the guns unlocked though.

the “my rank or higher” option is referring to the games that you join not who can join you

so you can join a game with players above you but you cant join players below you.

they did it so that you couldnt have a lvl 1 player join a game with a bunch of lvl 1’s then invite a bunch of lvl20’s to rape them

it wouldnt be a big deal if you could group together before getting in a game but the way it is now the highest player has to find a game first then the lower players have to join and hopefully there is enough room

Yep. I started my mates next campaign mission (Day 6 Security) and invited him. He joined fine so I was able to help him through and level up more easily.

That.

It’s not a well known fact in the community by the looks of it. Should be a sticky thread.

(InfiniteStates) #10

Well maybe it’s broken then…? As I stated - when my level 20 character couldn’t join my mate, I made a new character. By your reasoning I should then have been able to join, but I still couldn’t.

This is just another aspect of the game that serves to fracture the community in my opinion. I would much rather see no rank filtering, and instead have a multiplier for XP when you kill someone of higher rank than you. The multiplier should only ever be 1 or higher (i.e. don’t penalise top ranks for killing noobs, just reward noobs for killing top ranks).

Someone already basically stated this, but maybe I can help clarify. When the person making the match sets it to My Rank or Higher the game seeks out a match of your rank or higher to place you in. Therefore if you are level 1 you could be placed into a Rank 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 match. If you are level 15 you could only be placed in a Rank 4 or 5 match.

Say you are level 1 and you make a My Rank or Higher and are then placed in a Rank 1 or 2 match, well if your friend is rank 3, 4, or 5 he/she can’t join. Therefore, the highest level player needs to make the match in order to ensure the most possible people can join.

As the other person stated this prevents a low rank player from starting a game and inviting a bunch of high levels in to destroy everyone. Therefore, the feature appears to be working as intended.

Specifically addressing the OP, if your level 20 had made the match you could have played together. However, your level 1 friend must then take the chance of facing opponents of potentially any level.

But why does this problem occur when I host the game?
