My PERSONAL opinion on Vassili in Competitive

There’s more I wanted to say but didn’t find it in myself to keep talking, nose was burning

I didn’t really find your argument to be compelling on whether or not Vasilli should change or not. I don’t think you really made an argument for why instagib should remain or not and I watched the video twice. Your argument boils down to claiming they should play around it (instagib) and vasilli should actually be buffed (despite clearly not needing buffs).

This is your argument essentially: Instagib shouldn’t be removed because it promotes skillful play and should be played around. That just sounds silly to me and I don’t think you’re honestly addressing what people are saying how vasilli should change by saying “just play around it”. You definitely need to elaborate on why instagib should remain because you really did not in the video to any significant extent.

Personally I am undecided on whether they should retain 1 hit instagib strength. They are introducing 2 mercs that can help counter vasilli and currently there really is not a strong counter to vasilli because of instagibs. If there wasn’t mercs coming out to help counter vasilli, I’d say he definitely needs to change to promote a healthy meta and not a meta that just revolves around how effective sniping is on a particular stretch of map.

I must admit I do not agree with the points you made and I think the justifications you bring up are not accurate. Basically after having watched your video it feels like you are trying to defend current mechanics while asking for buffs/improvements to the way he works now. I see absolutely no grounds for that.
The biggest issue I had is that you keep comparing it to CoD and CS. This game has an entire different pace and focus. You seem fine with a dominant combat class that is capable of getting kills that no other class possibly could.

  1. This is not CS or CoD. I personally really, really dont want it to be either. Those games feature incredibly short time to kill where a 1 shot sniper feels more reasonable than it does in this game. The sniper balance can also not be compared at all. I had a decent (by no means top tier) CS playing friend of mine try the game and he loved how easy it was to snipe people. Compared to CS the guns have got barely any recoil, no proper knockback under fire, high fire rate, hardly any weapon sway and/or inaccuracy while moving, can be shot while jumping and have a scope zoom that allows even close range engagements.

  2. People say “play around him” but ow exactly would you do that? Its easy to suggest other people are at fault but maybe you should illustrate why that is. An objective is an objective, you have to get on it. Maps/stages usually feature around 3 different angles/ways to approach. You honestly feel like an entire team should disengage and move around (lose their attack timing and essentially an entire spawn wave) because the enemy team has got 1 specific merc? Dont you think they would communicate that and rotate accordingly? Do you suggest that every merc has to jump around every corner (essentially doubeling or trippleing the time it takes for them to get anywhere) because there is this one guy on the enemy team? In your video you shot a proxy mid sprint around a corner and a Nader mid air (amongst many more BS kills). To my mind you, as a long ranged high powered rifle class, should have been outplayed/outclassed in both of these situations but twitch shooting saved the day.

  3. Counters. There isnt any. You compare it to CS and CoD but in those games every single player has got a flash and a smoke. Here you dont. Offensive objective play is hard enough as it is with all the inherently defensive mercs. Why would you suggest that the entire gameplay is supposed to be dominated by a single merc?

  4. You compare him to the potency a Nader brings to the table but I personally cant see that. A Nader is infitely more difficult to play well than a Vasilli is. Vasilli is uninspired, decade old game design and has not got a single interesting or hard to master mechanic to him. There is a reason why people are so upset with him. Its not because they got rekt by a truely talented player once… its because it happens more than with any other class which suggests there is a balance issue there. I also have a hard time believing that every aim god PC gaming has to offer has suddenly dropped whatever they were doing just to come play this game.

I truely hope twitch shooting gameplay (what you like to call “skilled”) will not be a major factor in this game. You keep comparing it to CoD but CoD is the last thing I want this game to be like. I admit that what I personally wanted is a modernized ET but I am more at peace with the addition of shotguns than I am with high powered sniper rifles. At least a shotgunner has to get in close, have movement and engage in a fight. A sniper sits back, aims at predefined spots and than twitch shoots me without any sort of fight ever having taken place. I have heard the “picking off enemies before the engagement” argument a lot but I dont agree. Why would you want to? What makes this game awesome is (comparably) lengthy fights with up to 5 people that are decided by tracking gunplay, good positioning and movement and class abilities. Why would you ever want to subtract from that experience by having a static merc picking off people before they get to the fun stuff?
Maybe if so many people think its bull**** it should simply not be a thing rather than telling them to deal with it and play around it.

Even if the insta gib was removed and the difficulty of shooting would be closer to CS than it is now it would still be a viable class. You can engage enemies at a longer range than anyone else and you can deal massive damage (even with body shots) in a single hit. How is that not enough? Why does he need to be this top trump guy that, when played properly, outperforms everyone else? Why cant it be their job to spot and call out approaching enemies, slow them down and make the enemey use medpacks before the upcomming fight. That should be plenty.
It does not feel like Vasilli players care much about class balance. You even asked for unscoped accuracy to be improved so you could noscope people as if the sniper rifle should be a viable option for close range rather than having Vasilli finally beat if you maneuver close to him… You are basically asking for him to be viable in every situation ever.

mti_ said it quite well and better than I did.
