My oppinion on Brink.

Few words first.

I’m huge fan and veteran of W:ET, ANY player in Israel, who ever touched W:ET will recognize me as [snipe]asmo - beloved and hated IWZ admin, i loved W:ET so much because:

  1. briliant addictive gameplay
  2. avilable for linux
  3. moddable
  4. free (tho would pay even $200 to be able to play it if it wouldn’t be free)

after long years of playing and creating maps for W:ET, SD announced that they’re working on ET:QW, wow. For me, what SD was saying before ET:QW was released was 100% true, it was outstanding, it has:

  1. great addictive gameplay
  2. avilable for linux
  3. moddable

both these are great objective based team shooters (imho more spectacular teamplay moments was in W:ET).

then i bought BFBC2, destructable enviroment, great teamplay (when you find good peoples on both sides), DLC, many fixes, i fall in love with BFBC2, even my daughter love it
few years passed playing BFBC2 and then they announced Battlefield 3 on fall. But SD also announced Brink.

I was reading reviews regarding Brink, my feeling was very positive and i was really sure that after SD delivered to us W:ET and ET:QW, Brink will be no doubt briliant game.

I asked on this forum about Linux Port (see http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18518 there was long discussion and many peoples besides me expected the linux port as well, thread got closed).

After i realized there will be no Linux Port i said to myself: "i’ll buy it anyway, after all, Brink will be briliant game and it’s worth to switching over OS’s just to play Brink).

The main reason i bought Brink is to survive playing something addictive while waiting for Battlefield 3, i was worried that Brink will bring my full attention to it and i will forget about Battlefield 3, but anyway i wont be bored waiting when i’ll have Brink.

And then Brink got released and the game got delivered to my home.

I played long, only with bots, only with real players, mixed mode. I am very disappointed. I have no words to describe what is wrong with Brink, my feeling is that that it’s made of plastic, everything, the movement, the recoil, it’s epic fail. And it’s so consolized imho. Just like Crysis 2. Most of the oppinions that peoples wrote on this forum in details to describe what is wrong with Brink - i agree, no need to repeat all of it. Now, SD lost in my eyes, i still feel sentimental about SD but, if they release another game and if there will be no demo so i can try it before buying it, i wont buy no matter what. I’m not able to play Brink anymore, i have 2 game icons on my Windows 7 desktop: BFBC2 and Brink. When i want to click on Brink icon, i feel bad.

I guess it happens to any company, to release bad game sometimes, but i wish for SD to get back on TOP and release great games in futures !!!

best wishes and much love !!!

p.s.
sorry for my english, still not as good as it should be

Whenever I see that kind of intro, I always get a bad feeling…and unfortunately, it was justified…but hey, at least you’re not mercilessly beating the game to death…

Why is the fact that the OP has previous good experience with a dev company a hint that he obviously won’t like Brink.

He didn’t say he wanted Brink to be W:ET or QW:ET, he didn’t even suggest it. He merely pointed out that he had a good feeling about the game as the dev company had proven themselves and he felt let down.

While I can sympathise with your feeling, you do phrase it in an incredible vague manner that doesn’t really help. I also think SD knows damn well what PC players want, it’s just that it has been completely clouded by making sure it works for the console (understandable after that QW console trauma, but at least give us our PC game back).

I never said that he did, I’m just saying that it’s a cliche when someone introduces themselves as a Veteran of a previous Title, they will end their post expressing that they don’t like this Title, happens a lot in Forums, so I was basing that comment on that…

And I’m not insulting or attacking the guy, it was a simple statement, and I honestly do not care he doesn’t like the game, his post was actually relatively positive despite the fact he doesn’t like BRINK…

Well I had almost same experience with shooters as author had.( I ve just played few shooters more). Unfortunetly I ve got same syndrom of being sick and disappointed about brink.
Now I think it would be better if SD had realesed for monay W:ET, even with its graphic, with some good anti-cheat support and support it to make it back on great LANs. Now I would definitly buy it and replace BRINK some enjoyable FPS I’ve already played such a long time.
