My opinions on DB as a newcomer.

So I thought I’d post this in the “Newcomers” section, but I don’t think it really belongs in there and usually on many forums for games people only read the General discussion, so I thought I’d get the most answers here. Here we go…

I started about a month ago when I messed up my leg badly, so I play ed a lot and i’m already Rank 8. I’ve actually played enough to buy the Firewall trinket in the last event, but Stellaris came out … so mi cycles went to credits.

I do have the equipment pack and the spamtrap trinket, though and I was wondering and couldn’t find this anywhere:
Since the even ended, shouldn’t I already be able to open the Culprit case for the Proxy? Just asking.
That would be the first one.

Second one - I love how simple to pick-up the game is.
It’s like someone slapped together Brink and Tribes: Vengeance. Really reminds me of these games. The acrobacy of brink and extremely fast combat of Tribes. Love it. However…

I know it’s a beta version, but I really don’t like the way weapons are split between mercs. Of course some of them would be really overpowered with different guns, but nowhere on any of the Merc’s profiles it says what weapons they can get in their loadouts. I spent my starter money to try to get a semi-auto AR for Aura, before I realized she can only have two of the three shotguns in the game and the Blishlok SMG. Considering I really hate the shotguns in this game, because I can’t aim in close range well enough and just suck with weapons, that have lof RoF. I also hope the game’s gonna get a lot of new weapons, like 10 different guns per Merc. I know it’s a lot, but it would be the tits.

Another thing - there’s lag. But only on one map and it doesen’t seem to be FPS lag, but stutter. The map is Dome.
I read something on this and just wondered if it’s going to get fixed or if there’s any fix I can try, like editing some .ini or something.

Lastly … the balance seems nice compared to other free FPS out there. Balance is always horrible in most free to play games, but Dirty Bomb is pretty good.

Only two things I don’t like, first is Proxies being able to use their mines like grenades. They just suicide run into blob of your team and throw the frisbee. And if you shoot the mine before it arms, you die and if you let it arm you die anyway if you won’t run, but then the rest of the enemy team gets you. I play Aura a lot and just die in one hit to Proxies spamming mines - they mostly don’t even use their guns. Bushwhacker seems to counter them well with the turret, but any other class I played just seems to fail. I sometimes die to a well-placed mine, but usually it’s the thrown one, not the placed how it should be played. This must’ve been suggested a thousand times, but a 2 second set-up time would be really good balance.

Second thing is Fletchers spamming stickies. They don’t even have to use their guns if they want to get to the top of the board. Fragger seems fine - one grenade, if he misses, he has to use his guns. Great against blobs. Nader is also very well balanced, surprises me how some devs actually know what to do. Altough the one-shot grenade on direct hit is a bit bullshitty.

So that’s all my questions and opinions on this game, hope someone reads this :blush:

well it is. want a less harsh advice?
you need to train more.

cant aim with shotgun?
most people pick shotgun because they cant aim
(i pick small smg because i like the feel for sawbonez)
aura have a pretty nice SMG called Blishlock.
it has higher damage than most of smg, better spread than other smg.
you can dink-dink-dink (head shots) easily since it has dot sight.

literally every merc in the game is dangerous and pretty much can kill you with their abilities.
Aura can Tank herself with health station
sawbonez has crotzni
sparks has Revivr gun (it heals,it kills. is ironic paradox yadda yadda)
Phoenix can heal an entire room and can revive himself

and those are only the medics

you dont like the weapons because its attached to the loadout? well too bad, because AR attached to aura would be very scary as fug. (well, basically it balances. imagine rhino can carry smg.)

proxy mine too overpowered?
you could have shoot her before she even get close to you and guess what?
the counter for her mine is actually backpedalling.

“hurr but im in a small room!”
you dont camp in this game if you dont have the correct countermeasure for each merc.

you play aura and her health station blew up because proxy mines? well too bad.
you can get fragged by fragger, you can get killed by flanking rhino, you can get smoked by red eye.

you die a lot in this game and the point of keep playing is to learn from your mistakes.

red eye smoke? you can throw molotovs at it or drop arty airstrike to blow the smoke.

Fragger Frag grenade? when he fall back to his cover during a battle that means hes going to throw one, that means you need to retreat from your general area and flank him. or better, charge at his position with all your might (or perhaps your team).

rhino? just run man. or better, get in cover and wati for your teammate before engaging a rhino (unless youre a pro420XxXnoscopeXxX420pro)

@exoticLagoon Welcome to DB… the weapons split is required… It is based on the mobility of players. Higly mobile mercs usually get shotguns as they can go in and smack the enemies but they do have lower health… I think this is a better balance and ruining this takes out the mechanics of game
The lags arise a lot more than u will expect :wink:
AND guess you are another proxy hater… the mines are no big deal… You will LEARN WHERE MINES ARE and WHERE TO ANTICIPATE it as u play more and more… only pro proxies will get you and that too not always… And yea fletcher is gonna be balanced in this update

The Fletchers you’re having trouble with are the good ones, the proxies you’re having trouble with are the good ones, a good Thunder (one of the worse assault mercs) will kill you almost as easily

I tend to disagree on the good proxies. Suiciding into a group over and over is not exactly the definition of a great play.

  1. You will be able to as soon as the next update goes live. (~2 hours til maintenance for the update. Will last 3 hours)

  2. This is mainly to prevent from imbalance in the game. They have premade loadouts for this specific reason. It works quite well with the game

  3. Sometimes using shotguns can be fun. Often times I find that tracking the player then quickly flicking my wrist helps me hit them with ease.

  4. Yes, Dome is known for its lag. Few things you can do to increase FPS is to A) Lower graphic settings. B) Turn off VSync and Thread Sync C) Use a Dirty Bomb custom config file. (Search on Google. You’ll find plenty. /r/dirtybombconfigs)

  5. Balance could be improved a fuck ton

  6. Literally hold S and back away from the mine. THEN shoot.

  7. Fletcher, Fragger, Stoker, Thunder, and any other class that can aim properly is a decent counter to Proxy. Shoot her in the head a ton and you will be fine. (btw it’s already at 2 seconds to arm the mine)

  8. Fletcher is being nerfed to help prevent spamming with stickies. But a Fletcher that spams stickies, is a bad Fletcher. Fragger is pretty good. It’s recommended to kill someone with a frag 80% of the throws. The rest of the time you should use your guns.

  9. Nader is a strong merc often dubbed as a noob merc by a lot of people. The reality of the situation is that she is easy to learn but very powerful. Soon you will come to see that a Nader that only uses her grenades (regardless of the one-hit “bullshit”) is a bad Nader.

@buffMonorail Use her nade for everything… to neutralize deployables and as a crowd control… But a skilled nader uses nades to one-hit low health mercs like proxy sparks aura and kira… since nades have low blast radius its better you hit enemies spot on and switch to guns and kill them :smile:

To add, you can use it to check and make sure no one is following you or to shoot one behind you (shoot it against a wall to the side or in front of you… Any way to get it to go BEHIND you. You could also turn around but that takes too much time) to slow down anyone chasing you.
