My new ET map on etpro (localhost). Server disconnects!

(Loffy) #1

Hi!
I can load and play my custom map in etmain, but run into problems when try to host a game in etpro.

it’s a full map, with all files and zipped up in pk3-format.

This is how I try to run it in etpro: I double click my desktop shortcut to start etpro (+set fs_game etpro)
In the game main menu, I click Host Game.
From the list om games, I pick my map. And click Start Server.
The map loads just like normal. The first thing we see, is the countdown “Waiting. Match begins in: 9, 8, 7…”
I can chose side (allies or axis) and class. No problem.
But as soon as the countdown reaches 0, the server disconnects. I never hear the “FIGHT!” voice.
The info in the consol, when server disconnects, is:

Setting MOTD...
Setting Axis autospawn to forward Spawn
SV_MapRestart_f(0): dropped client 0 - denied!
BIG Info string length exceeded
Server disconnected for unknown reason Warning: file ui/wm_quickmessage.menu, line 210: too few define parms

ERROR: ui/wm_quickmessage.menu, line 210: couldn't parse menu item keyword rect
ERROR: ui/wm_quickmessage.menu, line 210: couldn't parse menu item keyword itemDef

The game never freezes. I get a standard-looking Et info window that says: Server disconnected for unknown reasons.

What could have caused this?

Send pie the map and Ill test it on a shrub server loffy!!! private server ofcourse…have you tryed and use the ref commands???

My God, that would be awesome. I’ll Pm you now. Thanks a million!

Ref commands, you say? Not sure what those are, but I’ll try.

I read in another forum, in a similar thread, that “remove all ‘sets’ from your configs” would solve problems like these (if I interpreted things right). I have removed all “sets” from my autoexec.cfg and my personal cfg (loffy.cfg, what else?) and all cfg that I can thing of. Both in etmain and in etpro-folder. But the problem remain.
I’m sure we’ll solve this eventually.

Seems to work now. The pk3 becomes public tonite. I’ll post dl-site and screens within minutes.

Ps. I wonder what that problem was, with starting a localhost etproserver on my home pc and getting that ‘server disconnected for unknown reasons’ all the time (while it worked if I started a etmain local host server).

Wouldn’t it be better in any case to test maps with a dedicated server? I have 3 installations of ET now: 1 for gaming, 1 for mapping, 1 for testing with dedicated servers. I start the dedicated one and then connect via Internet to my dedicated server, using rcon and ref commands to get the map and settings. Correct me if I m wrong but i guess that simulates a hosting of the map best.

Hm, never thought about that. (“start the dedicated one and then connect via Internet to my dedicated server”) Thanks! Will try it!
