ADAD has always been less than ideal. I don’t see why people keep thinking it is what the game is based upon just because it is what people do. I never just ADAD when I play ET. When you play against people who can track well (and lets face it, this game is heavy on tracking, and that is a good thing) it is a bad idea. You have to be as unpredictable as possible. Throw crouches in the mix, go long when you are feeling good in your tracking and go short when you aren’t ready yet. If you try to make ADAD useless you make the game a lot less skill focused.
My long video of feedback... [Version 2]
What AD spam? I’ve only seen one person do it, and it wasn’t effective at all because you could just aim straight with no tracking involved.
Maybe you should first fix your own way to express yourself (especially since it´s your first language), before telling others (that actually learned english as a foreign language) to do so
But since I see this topic currently as reasonable as empty arguments about “old” game mechanics that won´t work I will just stick to my standard solution: better maps. With maps that offer you possibilities to outplay your enemy, by for example picking better suited classes/weapons, we wouldn´t have to discuss this I think.
The comparison about how other games besides Quake and UT require more skills, made me laugh quiet much tho. Anyways, if there are ways to give us more possibilities to gain an advantage over our enemy, I would like to see them, but I really feel like there are thousands other things, that this game needs to fix now, or let´s say for over 1 year now…
I mention what Quake has in the video.
UT has just as many aspects if not more with the shield gun and dodge.
Counter Strike has learning recoil patterns, economy and hard strats.
Battlefield has prediction via the bullet velocity.
Titanfall has movement and mechs.
Shootmania has movement, prediction and extreme aim.
Tribes has movement, prediction and tracking.
And please… Lets not be silly and call adadad skill… That would be like calling standing still to shoot in CS a skill…
All games that have wide variety of skills are oldshool arcade shooters like ut, trackamnia, tribes etc. which DB is not
CS has no tracking, prediction or movement, economy and strats are not core skills. In Titanfall movement is not skill based, its a feature just like walljump in DB, Battlefield’s skills come from different vehicles, pure gunplay is shallow as f***, I wont even mention CoD… The truth is there’s not much more skills variety in other shooters, there are just more features in some of them.
RTCW, ET and Quake Wars did pretty well with almost the same core mechanics, it may not be what youre looking for, but it doesnt mean its bad
Ps. ADAD is not a skill itself, but maintaining good aim while strafing IS. I remember exactly how hard it was to learn when I started playing ET.
Mh, yeah my last post really was kinda harsh, I am sorry for that. But since I remember you treating me like that some time ago (at least that´s how it feld, even if you didn´t notice it), I thought you can take it too. After all I agreed on many what you said, and really would like to see more acquirable skills implemented into the game. So it´s not like I have a totally different view of everything
I just don´t like it when the first sentence I read is that I it makes no sense at all what I am typing, while writing sentences with opposite meanings yourself (even if the original intention and idea behind it may be the same).
Watched the video in its entirety, didn’t think I’d manage that.
Agree that a lot of this is middle of the road.
Demo recording will be a thing, how it’s accessed might not be the oldskool way though.
Biggest problem that you touched on is visibility, I’m really struggling to enjoy not being able to see people clearly.
And please… Lets not be silly and call adadad skill…
When the game gives players proper feedback, and the rate of fire is slow enough… it gives players the opportunity to dodge skillfully and reactively.
The issue with this is that some devs may dislike that fights can be won on decent movement alone instead of shooting. But more to the point, at lower skill levels spamming ADAD is too easy of a counter against average aim with slower rate of fire… the TTK skyrockets for them.
So yes in DB its not much of a skill by design.
We’re planning on updating you all on our monetisation plans in the very near future, it’s not nearly as up in the air as you might think!
I am interested to see where you can go with it…
Would love some cool looking cosmetics on a game I can run at least decently but I cannot imagine that happening right now.
Hope it works out well… Excited to hear what you have coming.
LOL @ 25.22 - 25.44 : Going to a circus and watching a clown… Hahahahahahaha
I enjoyed the vid and I agree with a lot of points. Keep it up!

hahaha I have no idea where I was going with that -.- FAIL!
Thanks again for doing one of these. Something that’d be quite useful for us in the future is doing timestamps for when you talk about certain topics. Nonetheless, cheers!
yea, good idea, will do.
Hope you guys got at least something from it.
