My Impressions of Brink at EGE

(Jubag) #1

I love team based shooters so i will be a bias, I love tf2 and currently play global agenda alot

I got to see the developer conference with paul wedgewood at last years EGE and i was quite excited about the game after, i have been following the game a bit since then but didn’t watch it too closely i dont want to get over excited about it

This game was the Game of the show tbh, even more than MoH the queue for MoH was about 40mins and when i queued for Brink it was about 2Hours

Now 2 Hours to play this game, the first you think is was it worth it? actually it was the game started out in customisation mode where cycled through alot of the clothing pretty quickly and it reminded me of Zoolander, that scene where he is being kitted out for the “Derelicte Fashion Show” with rubbish bags dodgy smells, when scrolling through im pretty sure i selected the chest piece with tyres going over the shoulder and a pair of patchwork jeans with a camo paint job once i had chosen my weapon something that resembled an M4A1 I waited for it to load.

This took a little longer than i would hope but that could have been i had been standing around waiting for this moment for 2 hours and it felt like a lifetime.

The game proceeded to start we where off, i was on the defending team so i selected Engineer as i usually do and started to run in which i was hoping the right direction there wasnt any indication that it was the correct way but im sure they wouldnt have but a doorway and tunnel in the wrong direction on a point defense map

Once i left the spawn room i then ran towards the defense objective and started firing my gun widly as i tried to remember howto use an xbox controller, took me a minute or two but i got the hang of it again, i then proceeded to get killed as i forgot how to dodge shots.

I respawned after a few seconds and proceeded to put my turret in a doorway, now i think my character said “Flame turret placed” but it was a normal bullet turret, when placing a turret i quite liked the way instead of having an indication appear around your hud the progress bar was on the turret i was placing and was slightly out of sight, meaning if you need this information then you have to look out of battle for a few seconds letting your guard down, unlike other games with a turret who put the progression in the middle of the hud and not being a distraction

Eventually my team managed to push back the attackers and were spawn camping them, now after talking to paul after we played this is no longer possible as the turrets in the bases are more aggressive, with one of my friends at the top of the choke point and me throwing damage buffs to him it seemed a little overpowered but it could have also been the skill level difference between the players

After finishing paul came upto us and said as we had won that we are being given tshirts and he would sign them for us, which for me was very cool, since i do like the games he and his team have always made.

I went to the Sunday show, BRINK was awesome. Bad Company 2 and MoH will be abandoned when it’s released. lol.

MoH just looks like the autistic child of Bad Company and Call of Duty.

wich themselves are getting more and more like eachother, only BC uses vehicles and larger maps
