My ideas for this game to prosper.

(Cletus_VanDamme) #1

Hi, I love this game and have joined these forums to voice how I think this game should progress.

If you disagree or dislike any of my opinions, please state clearly why you feel that way as I look forward to constructive criticism of my thoughts. In my opinion my suggestions would only improve this game, making it more appealing to more people, and therefore increasing the profits of this game, which can only be a good thing.

I will first list the order of things I think should be done.

  1. Release Aimee. Health 90, Speed 440. Weapons - Same as Vassili. Ability - Same as Vassili.

Hear me out before you’re enraged that she is the same as Vassili, with different health and speed stastics. There is NOTHING WRONG with having similar mercs in the game, think Skyhammer / Arty.

Yes it would be great to have a fancy new gadget in the form or the 3rd eye camera, perhaps that can be on a future sniper merc.

Expanding on that thought you could have, for example a merc named Roberto with ammo packs, 420 hp and an airstrike. Or a male character with a Revivr, with more HP / less speed (than Sparks). Perhaps an Aussie chick with 110 HP / large medpacks? An English Rugby player with 150 HP / frag grenades?

The possibilities are endless. They offer no balance issues if their loadouts are well thought out, and if people don’t want duplicate mercs they don’t have to purchase them. More variety can only be a good thing if it’s not over done.

I’m not saying don’t create new, unique mercs, just more variety.

  1. Release Turtle. Health 120, Speed 400. Weapons - BR16, KEK 10, Remburg. Ability, Shield, Engineer.

Turtle’s above average health (for an engineer) and variety of weapons make up for his lack of speed, and passive special ability, compared to the other engineer classes.

  1. Complete and release both Dockyard and Gallery.

  2. Balance Aimee and Turtle balancing, depending on feedback / statistics.

  3. Dockyard and Gallery balancing, depending on feedback / statistics.

  4. Thunder Balance. Make model / hitbox more similar to Fragger. Reduce conc grenade cooldown to 15 seconds. HP 165.

  5. Performance optimisation, including a minimal setting, that sets EVERYTHING to as low as possible.

  6. Achievable, non purchasable trinkets. x amount of kills trinkets available in bronze, silver, gold and cobalt. End game rewards trinkets, IE doctor, available in bronze, silver, gold and cobalt. I am sure that this idea can be expanded and improved.

  7. Merc purchasing reward - When purchasing a merc, you receive a case for that merc that will drop 50% silver, 35% gold and 15% cobalt or something like that.

Once the above has been achieved, I believe that this game can concentrate on improving the store experience for both F2P and $$$ players, to a level that will satisfy the customer, encourage them to return and most importantly be profitable so that this great F2P game can continue to thrive.

I suggest these items be added to the store, or improved from their current status.

  1. 3 Trinket rails - Display 1-3 trinkets on your primary weapon

  2. 5 Trinket rails - Display 1-5 trinkets on your primary weapon.

  3. Secondary weapon trinket rail - Display 1-2 trinkets on your secondary weapon.

  4. Character Trinkets (excluding exclusive trinkets sold during WTD event).

  5. Dirty Bomb Logo trinkets? Sponsor trinkets? (nvidia, logitech, alienware) Limited Edition Event trinkets?

  6. Applyable weapon skins. Perhaps available on a seasonal availability. Purchase a skin, apply it to a silver or above card.

  7. Series 2 loadouts. Different augments, augment combinations, weapons etc. Previous loadouts still available from both the store and equiptment cases.

  8. Introduction of new weapons in Series 2 loadouts. IE new Burst AR, Auto AR, SMG, Shotgun and Sniper rifle. Obviously take care to balance each weapon etc.

  9. Expert / Elite / Special Edition cases rework. Reduce their price. They cost too much. Your average person just isn’t going to spend that much money on the possibility, and likelihood of disappointment. If they’re cheaper, you will have a new audience of people buying them. If they’re cheaper, people are less disappointed if the don’t get the best stuff from the cases.

I bought a 10 pack of Elite cases during the CW event, and received 10 Silver cards that were nothing but trade up items, and a CW card for Phantom that is inferior to the other 2 I already own but rarely use.

I wasn’t happy about the experience, especially as that converted to $50 AU. Think about that. That’s a decent amount of money, and I’m older than most of your audience I believe, own more than 1 property and can afford to spend money on luxury items. Imagine somebody scraping by on a student wage, they’re quite simply not going to purchase your current offerings for the current price.

Give out 1 Special Edition case with every 5 purchased. 3 with every 10 purchased. These are events, you want people to be happy when they partake. I know you think that giving away too many cards will make people spend less, but I disagree. Happy customers always spend more than unhappy ones.

While you’re at it add skins for the Beckhill knife. Make the knife skins assume the attributes of whatever loadout card melee weapon it’s assigned to, to ensure no balance issues. Perhaps this wouldn’t work with the Katana or Cricket bat, but I’m sure you could find a way. Have the knife skins only available from Expert cases, giving people a reason to buy them, and ensuring that they’re unique and desirable, but not game breaking at all for F2P players.

  1. Adjust individual loadout and loadout bundle prices accordingly.

The only downside that I can think of with the above ideas is that some people who have spent money on this game up to this point may feel upset at the permanently lower prices, or feel that the introduction of new loadouts and skins will make their current inventory redundant.

To say thanks to all of your players to this point, and to make the above feel better about the situation, I suggest an Open Beta event, my next idea.

All players receive - Open Beta trinket + Open Beta Obsidian case. Contains a random merc, 2 loadouts available per merc. Obviously no repeats of the current Alpha and Closed Beta Obsidian cards.

Players who have spent ANY amount through Steam receive thethe Open Beta trinket + an additional Obsidian loadout case, containing a merc of their choice. Any Series 1 loadout will be in the case, so 9 options in each case.

Players who have spent $29.95 or more through Steam receive the Open Beta trinket + an additional Obsidian loadout case, containing a merc of their choise, AND the loadout of their choice, chosen from Series 1 loadouts.

And now onto my final idea. A coordinated, tactical marketing campaign. Executed correctly, this would cost you NOTHING other than the time of the employee running the campaign.

  1. Target Youtuber / Twitch FPS players. Targeting smaller channels that still generate views (5+k Youtube views, 500+ Twitch viewers) would enable you to promote the game without $$$ cost, only needing to provide ingame items to enable the Youtuber / Twitch person to advertise your game.

  2. Offer compensation via an all access pass. All mercs, 100k in game currency, 10 elite cases etc. You want people enjoying your F2P game with their cool bling for all to see.

  3. Part of the promotion would be a thorough explanation and walkthrough of the games monetization, explaining the fact that ALL items are available to ANY player, F2P OR PAYING (except knife skins if they’re implemented). There is absolutely NO P2W.

  4. Give starter packs to them for giveaways. Perhaps introduce a temporary ‘Claim starter pack’ button for a week or so when the event is first released so that if 5000 people are watching a Twitch stream with some guy enjoying your great game, and telling everybody that it’s F2P and they can claim a FREE starter pack with over $50 worth of ingame items! Yes, you’d be giving away a lot, but it doesn’t cost you anything. Get people in and liking your game and they’re more likely to spend money on it, which is your end game goal here, than somebody who doesn’t even download it because they don’t know about it.

I really do love Dirty Bomb. I hope I don’t come across as demanding or like a know it all, telling you what to do, I’m just offering an opinion.

Thank you for this great game, I look forward to any response.

(…) merc named Roberto with ammo packs, 420 hp and an airstrike. [/quote]

Roberto is already my favourite merc. Finally someone who can take few hits.

Didn’t have the patience to read after #1

I like all of the concepts, they could work, but don’t talk about merc balance if that’s the way you think it should be handled. Every merc is designed with a unique ability and “flexible” play style that implements skill rather nicely with balance as well (overlooking the certain design choices recently). Variety is a nice thing to have in games yes, but putting in mercs that are basically 98% the same as others is blatant laziness that we as the community will not accept. Remember that this is Open Beta and releasing stuff that is essentially not finished is gonna tarnish the games rep, so no I will disagree to your recommendation to releasing these mercs.

(blisteringOwlNest) #7

If league of legends can have variety, so can dirty bomb, similar characters are kinda silly. Similar effects, perhaps, but in different ways.

Other then that, solid ideas. Promotion is very important and I believe will help push dirty bomb more into the public eye.

Yep, 420 HP was a mistake. Obviously I meant 120, the same as Arty / Skyhammer.

I am a little surprised that nobody seems to want to have a serious discussion regarding the many suggestions I have brought up, perhaps the audience of this game doesn’t include many people who can think deeply.

@sgtCrookyGrin , I don’t understand why you’re confusing balance and merc variety, or lack of variety. I clearly mentioned that any new merc, loadout, augment or weapon would need to be balanced to ensure an even playing field.

I also mentioned that if people don’t want similar mercs they’re free to not purchase them, so stating that ‘the community’ won’t stand for that is just plain false, considering that I am part of the community and advocating these ideas. Not saying you’re wrong and I’m right, just that different people have different opinions regarding variety available.

(Jostabeere) #10

Did you seriously made Aimee exactly like Vassili, but with less HP and bit more speed. (Speed doesn’t matter here so much though, you’re standing most of the time at long range anyway) and justified it with Skyhammer and Arty being the same?
They have a different weapon pool, with only 1 gun crossing, totally different abilities and different secondary abilities. They’re not the exact same merc with slightly different stats.
The thought about variety and “many same mercs” in one sentence cancels itself out I believe. If we still had the dislike button, you’d earn it, since most of the ideas are just shenanigans, sorry.

(Cletus_VanDamme) #11

@Jostabeere , Skyhammer and Arty have different secondary abilities? I press E and an ammo pack appears when playing both?!? What happen when you press E?

Perhaps I started the post with the wrong suggestion, as it seems people can’t get over the idea of similar mercs. You calling my other 20 ideas shenanigans is probably a bi product of me ordering things incorrectly.

How is releasing mercs, maps, balancing current mercs, improving the store etc a ‘shenanigan’?

(doxjq) #12

I don’t see anything wrong with your suggestions I just don’t really see anything new. Trinkets have been discussed. Other variations of trinkets has been discussed. Skins we all know are discussed end over end every day. People have been asking for items they can add to their mercs or guns (like trinkets) for quite some time now, and well all the map and merc suggestions are going to happen sooner or later any way. New loadouts and new weapons have been discussed before and new merc suggestions are discussed all the time, and people asking for more skin variations as well as the skins and loadouts to be split so you can equip skins onto loadouts is old news too.

I mean don’t get me wrong, nothing wrong with anything you suggested, but 99% of it we’ve heard 1000 times now, and at the end of the day the devs are only going to do what they think works regardless of how many times we ask for something I think.

About the only thing I see worth reiterating is of course the cost of cases. I agree they are too expensive and I think they would actually make more money by reducing the cost of them and selling more. But once again, this has been discussed a thousand times over, and they’ve never budged on the cost of them yet.

(Cletus_VanDamme) #13

@rancid , well said. Let’s hope that the people responsible for making this game run with some of the ideas that I’ve suggested, especially if they’ve been suggested by multiple people multiple times.

Common SD / Nexon, you have people who want to give you money here. Why are you not offering people more variety, customisation and so on?

(Jostabeere) #14

Yeah, sorry, right. I messed Arty up with Stoker. They have the same SECONDARY ability.
The idea of similar mercs isn’t bad. But your suggestion wasn’t “a similiar merc”, but more of a cheap, totally useless copy of an existing merc with a different model. It is questionable if we need Aimee, since noone knows how she actually gonna perform, but it is pretty clear that we don’t need a second Vassili.
Also, even if your ideas are somehow nice and useful in some parts, the gimmicky/not very usefull/will happen anyway side is more present.
-Gallery and Dockyard will be completed anyway
-“Everything as low as possible” was cut because it gave people an advantage by using it
-Merc purchasing reward just won’t happen, and is basically ~17 free Elite cases (~$60) per player
-Up to 3 or 5 trinket is subjective, but 5 of them on a gun is just…Well…Meh. Basically have trinkets for the sake of hanging so much stuff on your gun as possible.
(The money conversion isn’t made by Nexon to annoy you. $35 are nearly 50 Australian Dollars.)
Just as a little example.

(Cletus_VanDamme) #15

@Jostabeere

I’m not sure if the issue here is the obvious language barrier, you being arrogant, or you having a problem with people new to the forum voicing their opinion, or a combination of the three.

Yes, I justified having a similar Vassilli / Aimee because Skyhammer / Arty are similar.

It’s just a suggestion. I don’t care if the hypothetical Roberto has the Dreiss, M4 or whatever. I honestly don’t understand why you’d be against such variety. It’s not as if such a merc would take up all of the development time, and I quite clearly said I’m not advocating copycat mercs to be the only mercs released from now on, as stated in my original post.

‘gimmicky/not usefull’ - Why are you such as asshole? Do you talk to people like this in real life? Again, just suggestions and opinions from a new forum member, no need to aim for the most proficient dick head award here mate.

Suggesting that I suggested giving $60 worth of cosmetics to a player who purchases a merc is just stupid, and nitpicking. If you read the suggestion clearly you would see that after I gave the percentages of the case I said ‘or something like that’.

You’re acting like I’m behaving like a spoilt child demanding something when all I am doing is offering an opinion.

As far as $35 USD being $50 AUD, ah, yes I know that, again I stated that in my original post.
How on earth you could read that as my thinking that Nexon is trying to annoy my personally is mind blowing, surely if you’re competent at the English language you would understand that my point is that they’re too expensive in their current state, and that IMO (opinion again, we all have them, like you know whats) they would make more money if they were cheaper, opening up the possibility of more people buying them.

Anyway, at this stage I will assume that you’re in a bad mood or perhaps visited the beach today and haven’t had the chance to wash properly, but if your next response is of the same nature, IE nitpicking on me for offering suggestions, having an opinion and twisting my words so it seems that I am demanding something rather than offering a flexible opinion I will not converse with you in the future, I learnt a long time ago that a dick is a dick and to not even bother.

Have a nice day.

(Jostabeere) #16

Please don’t act like a spoiled child or a victim. I don’t attack you, just state facts and my opinions based on your opinion. I did not say I have a problem with you stating your opinion, I just said why I think some points of your thread are bad. In my opinion.
Your idea of Aimee is objectively not similar. I don’t even know why I have to explain it a second time to you, but an exact copy of Vassili isn’t similar. Aimee in its current state is similar to him. Your idea of Aimee is a copy with slightly altered stats. Like you take an apple, copy the apple and draw a smiley-face on it.
Edit: I made a long post explaining everything to you, but decided against it simple because you already assume I’m either arrogant, can’t write at all or having a bad day, or I’m simply a dick because I critizise your ideas while you nitpick aswell. I have my rights to critizise your ideas. That’s how forums work.
It would not lead to anything, and I have to do less work this way.
Aswell, a good day.
