My hopes for DB, and therein lies the problem...
again… Wow…

Obviously you have had some Bad experiences on Private servers…

Guessing, based on the ‘tone’ of your response’s, some may be warranted, but am willing to bet, others were self-induced…

Bottom line, game wants to survive longer then a year, it needs Community Ran Servers…
Self Induced simply playing a game…

Do whatever CS:GO does and we will be happy on both sides.
1. A name - so you can identify it
2. Reserved slots - so the owner can get on when it’s full
3. Admin rights to kick people - if it’s my server I should be able to say who plays there
4. Ability to set at least a specific map rotation
1. Friendly fire 1 / 0.
It will be abused and split the community…

Pubs are not boring or emptying because we dont have community servers…
Absolutely not agree !

With dedicated server rental we can :

  • choose min level requirement to reach the server
(min level 10 / 20 / 30 etc … it’s a good point to avoid cheaters on your server, cause they need to level up, and most of the time they get kicked before reaching a high level)
  • set the max player (to a limit of 16 or maybe 24 if custom maps are made for)
  • choose the map rotation (remove a map you don’t like for ex, or server 1 map only if there is one map you love)
  • Activate friendly fire even in pub instead of private match only (spam spam spam make me mad !! Please !! this is needed !! even in pub )
  • Got a meeting point to play with your friends, and some new people to play with (that’s why favorites servers option is made !)
  • Having some admin around to keep real cheater and people you don’t like to play with away (and if you don’t like admin then you change server)
  • etc … This is a must have for a game like DB !

DLC like in BF split the community ! Not dedicated server rental …
look at TF2 there is still tons of players, custom content, community, etc …

If we even boil it down to its bare minimum. I website like this has a lot of passionate players, we know how to play and we’ve gotten to know each other over the years. Regardless of the night you play, you know fine well you can join Splash Damage server and get a good game with good players that know what they’re doing and are fun to hang with. Even if you stick to that one server for weeks or months on end, you know you’ll get a good experience with good players… that alone is worth it, because right now that good experience is few and far between.

so much this!!

We really are missing a proper pub place to gather likeminded players.

Minlvl10 servers are the best DB gaming experience since open beta release. Except its hard to find players to get it rolling, and any lack of personality makes it harder for those servers to stay permanently full. I’d love to consistently hop on a server of a high-skilled clan, knowing full well to expect tryhard attitude and good folks to play with.
This all seems very limiting…

Its like I must play in specific servers…
?!

Are you really trying to say that newly added community servers (= more servers) will limit your choice? You’ll still be able to join Nexon servers, won’t you?

What…? Noone forces you to register to “win things” or partake in T-shirt giveaways… And if you get banned often, the problem lies within you, not within community servers. In my 8-9 year old history of playing ET with complete administration freedom, I was banned permamently only twice. Both times unfairly in one clan’s servers, which I avoided later and joined any of 1000 remaining servers instead. Yes, noone hacked my game so that I would be forced to play with incompetent admins there. Noone controlled my mind either.

I don’t see how settings could mess up the credit system, as long as there are fair games without cheating. Extended map time? You gain more credits if you spend more time playing anyways, that’s how it should work, shouldn’t it? Longer maps would only mean that people wouldn’t be able to ragequit for a longer time to not lose credits.

Even if there were some kinds of abuse, SD/Nexon can always remove servers (if someone reports them and their report is righteous) or just disable credit earnings in them. There are ways to deal with that and they’re implemented in many games.

Also, do you prefer being insulted by XP/credit “whoring” kids “taking over” public servers, which happens from time to time now? I personally experienced that several times and I needed to mute VOIP because some geniuses without puberty were swearing at me right after I quickjoined “their” server.

Cult?!?! Play together just because there is noone better than you?! I don’t think you were in many clans based on that. Or only in high ego ones. You can’t lump them together with communities managed by normal, mature admins.

That’s true. You can have a company which has internal/client meetings in public places, too. However, there’s no guarantee that you won’t be disturbed by loud, annoying drunkards and teenagers (analogically, trolls, cheaters and other kids in public servers) or spied by rivals. Some kind of a “home” prevents this type of unwanted experiences, …

…because you can deal with all pests yourself. Banning and kicking is an essential power for a self-managed community server.

And this is your best argument… I don’t even know what can be split in your opinion, there’s nearly no “chemistry” in the community right now. Most often you join a random server and play with several random people, in worst case scenario in an unfair team (like 3v7 with no opponent bothering to switch) or against a cheater. Can you explain how exactly community servers will make it even more split (and not the other way round)?

Of course there are downsides of community servers (they’re not that big though), but nearly none of your worries are reasonable. You’re exaggerating and trying to depict them as something evil straight from hell that will destroy the game, by making illogical points.
