My gripe with Skyhammer

(sentimentalDime) #1

So, you know that airstrike marker that Skyhammer can throw? Of course you do.
My gripe with Skyhammer stems from the fact that a red line appears where the bombs will drop… Almost…

See, the line covers roughly half of of the lenght of the airstrike, which i find so annoying, as i often forget this and think i’m a safe distance from the airstrike, only to get blown up.

A simple fix for this would be to either

A: Double the lenght of the line to accurately represent where the bombs will drop

Or B (My preffered option): Nerf the airstrike so it is only about half as long, and the line accurately represents where the bombs will drop. I don’t think this would be a big deal as a well placed airstrike marker would stille be able to one-shot the EV.

C: Move perpendicular to the red line.

Besides, Skyhammer is already an expert at drawing red lines.

(sentimentalDime) #3

@avidCow Everyone in that video except the asian guy’s faces are so punchable…

(Dawnlazy) #4

No. It’s already visible enough, there’s smoke, an explosion, the bright line, a plane, and the noise it makes, and also the Guardian Angel perk.

(avidCow) #5

@sentimentalDime I think that’s the point.

(sentimentalDime) #6

@Dawnrazor Not noticing the airstrike isn’t the problem, the problem is that it doesn’t tell you properly if you are going to get killed or not.

(Grave_Knight) #7

That’s the problem? My problem is trying to figure out what direction the airstrike is going to travel before I throw it. I assumed it was perpendicular to my facing but I’ve had it travel parallel to my facing (and thus not do what I wanted it to).

(sentimentalDime) #8

@“Grave Knight” That’s odd. It always travels parallel to me whenever i’ve used it. Maybe write a thread about it in the bug reporting section?

(MarsRover) #9

Never happened to me. Are you sure it didn’t bounce off anything?

(terminal) #10

Double it and it’s completely useless in competitive.

(Northman) #11

It’s always parallel and the bombs drop from right to left.

On topic: This is part of Skyhammers skill indexing, you have to be able to hide the marker whilst still getting an effective strike. Making the marker bigger would be pointless since it’s already very easy to dodge an airstrike.

Wait, if it’s parallel to my facing it would be going right to left in relation to what? Think you guys mean perpendicular. Facing is a ray starting from where I’m standing to where I’m looking.

As for it not acting correctly, it probably is, and it could be bouncing off stuff (probably bouncing weird). Like I said, it’s my problem, I’m probably just predicting how it should be acting wrong.

I can’t imagine it being completely useless in comp because of that. People with a gold ranking or higher should know that the line isn’t accurate.

“gold ranking”
Oh you mean those organized pubs?

Every thing is a pub to @terminal if it isn’t the highest.

Competitive mode in general is basically an organized pub.
Get a premade and you’ll see how easy it is to poopoo on doodoo players

A premade can “poopoo” on many things. It has teamwork and communication.

My only gripe here is the fact that you used the word “organised” with the word “pub”.

Because that’s basically what competitive mode is.
You get matched with randoms as your teammates and you’re not allowed to leave.

(sentimentalDime) #19

@gg2ez @terminal I think we can all agree that comp is just a glorified match of Stopwatch

The line is accurate on where the bombs drop I believe, or at least the direction. It’s just that every bomb has a massive explosion radius that you may think you are safe while the AoE will still effect you.
