I used to map, I stopped after I stopped playing ET for quite some time. I wanted to get back into mapping and have downloaded the the GTK Radiant version. I went to start from the basics again, but to my surprise. I only saw three windows. (Texture, camera and the main editor.) I cannot edit the length/hight of things. I played around in the options, reinstalled, redownloaded, and once again reinstalled. I can’t figure this out.

k, what you want is in preferences(press p) , under Interface/Layout you can set your window configuration, or set floating windows that you can put exactly where you want. for the floating windows you have to toggle on your xz/yz(side views) under view/toggle.

After doing what you said…

Is that radient 1.5? or 1.4? I recommend using 1.4. A lot of features from 1.4 were never fixed to work in 1.5.

But you could just have some of the windows collapsed onto itself. See if you get a drag <-> icon at the edges of any of the windows you do see. There might be one hiding in there.

1.5 I searched and searched for a link to 1.4 with ET components and couldn’t find one. If you could find one that’d be appreciated. The window, is like not there, I have tried dragging it.

Didn’t 1.5 have the same layout options? May have been an earlier build…

This is how I currently have my workspace windows set up in 1.4.0. With a pic of my layout preferences…

Look harder if you can’t find it. Its in there.

this is exactly what I see

Good God save us all from the unobservant!

…select the proper floating window option. See the little pictures…with the buttons(circles) underneath…right beside where it says window layout…above where it says “detachable menus” and below that it says “Plugin Toolbar” but plugin toolbar is checked, but above that detachable menus is unchecked… but I guess “window layout” didn’t click in… and there’s soo many little pictures, must be causing some combobulation in yer thinkermajoo…

/sarcasm

Select the next one over.

Good luck on your next endeavour.

Edit-I could see you getting confused on the floating Z window option in my first screenie, but its not even checked… :expressionless:

Yeah that worked but I had to go View - XY or whatever it is… 1.4 was so simpler

Sometimes it likes to hide on the unseen left side of your screen. Try setting a your monitor to a higher resolution to see if it’s there.

(DerSaidin) #11

What features are you recommending 1.4 for?

(.Chris.) #12

You do realise you can swap the view of the main grid by pressing the ‘XYZ’ button on the tool bar or by pressing Ctrl + Tab thus allowing you to edit the height and width of your brushes from a single window, if you prefer to have all 3 views in separate grids then select the third “window layout” in preferences.

For those that still prefer 1.4:

Mostly interactivity related menus. I rely quite heavily on the right mouse button menu that lets you use these functions:

Ungroup Entity
Move into Entity
Move into worldspawn
Make Detail
Make Structural

I know the detail/strutural selections are hotkeys. I’m just too used to using the right menu instead. It’s faster than taking my hand off the mouse to hit the keys. But the entity related ones I have not found equivalents for and I am always moving brushes into and out of entities as I add more details or make copies.

Also, 1.5 only has “Select Touching” and “Select Inside” menu buttons.
These selection types don’t get rid of the brush that you use to make your selection. I always use “Select Complete Tall” or “Select Partial Tall” and those options are not in 1.5.

That said, I really love the texture window in 1.5. One other difference is that you can’t pull the verts of a square brush into a non-planar position. I did that a lot for my terrain and sometimes had to go back and split them into triangles to get rid of seams after compiling. So, I think that makes 1.5 good for building terrain by hand to help prevent those bad brushes. But I just need the rest of that menu for effieciency’s sake. So for that reason, I stick to 1.4.
