My First Map

(Gene$is) #1

Hello,
I’ve started my first map and i started this topic so if i get problems i can ask help here. I tried to make my first map like a year ago, but i gave it up soon.
Than i started making a map for Jedi Academy, which is much easier, but i havent finished that neither. Now i want to finish this map. I use GTK Radiant 1.5. At the moment i have few rooms. And im testing doors, windows and water. Im not testing with devmap and thing like that, but i replaced one PK3 's files with my own ones. It works i think.

And here is my first question:
I made place where evryone when can get, but i dont want them to get there…so how can i do and invisible block for them. I saw it on 1944 Huertgen. First i tought its the caulk, but from Marko’s tutorial i knwo i tought wrong. So how can i do it? Thanks

And here is my first problem:
I last tested before i put in a water, door and window and an explosion place.
It worked than,b ut now it writes out this: SV_SetBrushModel: NULL
I tried removing some new items and im still trying, but not working. . :frowning:
Thanks for this too

Hi,

First of all, don’t use one topic for all your question. It makes it impossible for people to find them later if they are in trouble.

Second:

but i replaced one PK3 's files with my own ones.

Your replacing PK3 files? why? You should really read up on the sticky topics found on this forum (look at the top) because you probably don’t know the basics of how to make a map run yet…

Third, an invisible block can be done by using the Clip texture, found in the Common folder. There are a number of clip textures, “clip” which will only clip players, “weapclip” which will cleap weapons and players, and some more i think… the name will tell you what they do, and if not, try it out.

Last, search the forum for “SV_Setbrushmodel: NULL”, the problem has been covered approximately 5000 times and it’s not too hard to solve.

Generally always SEARCH for your problem, either on google or here, you’re likely to find the answer then.

Yes i read VERY many stckies and VERY many tutorials and i know how to test and things like that, but im always thinking that its better to have a full PK3 before finishing a map, than having problems with PK3 aster finished map.

Thanks for the “clip”

Yea and now the problem is gone to i found the lonely entity.

Okay i wont post my problems here, sorry.

It’s okay to test with a pk3, its just time consuming repacking it every test. You can test from your etmain folders.

I think Flippy’s talking about your pak0.pk3 in /etmain. You shouldn’t replace it, but you can extract it to see what all’s in there.

Yes, i thought you were modifying game-essential pk3 files (like pak0.pk3) to get your maps to work, which is not the way it’s done…
If you’re just packing your map in a pk3 that’s fine if you like it. I think it’s too much of a hassle everytime i test a map.
