As requested, I’m posting some feedback having tried the game for the first time in the 2 recent weekends of load testing. I was a big fan of Quake Wars but haven’t really played any other SD games.
First of all, I really enjoyed the game this weekend. Even though I was pretty hopeless at it, I had fun. The guns feel great and the maps/objectives are well thought out, some of which feel very familiar to the best ones in quake wars.
Mercs & Loadouts:
Initially I found this a little confusing (from the main UI), I couldn’t tell if I already owned loadout cards or not. Also, there aren’t really any details shown for the mercs (health, speed etc) and especially the weapons - Once I had some loadout cards, I had to choose a weapon without knowing anything about it except its name.
I noticed you can choose your merc during warmup but there’s no indication that you have changed it and you have to kill yourself to activate. When new to the game, it’s nice to try them out a bit during warmup I think.
Match making:
I know this sounds really stupid, but I flinched when trying to click “accept” and hit “decline” by accident and was therefore banned for a few minutes! Perhaps the buttons could be separated a little for idiots like myself?
As an impatient person, I got a bit bored waiting (even a couple of minutes) for a match. Could a Windows desktop notification be implemented, so I can switch out of the game and start browsing funny cat pictures?
I found that I once I reached level 6, most players were far better at the game than me, but I presume this is due to the resetting of progress?
In-game:
I don’t suppose Steam’s shift+tab can be disabled? Holy turd, that’s annoying! Sometimes I’d like to see the player list while sprinting.
The side-objectives… I was probably missing something, but I rarely had any idea what the purpose of these were. Blow this / repair this - but why?? Perhaps they could be listed, with a purpose, on the tab view. Maybe they are and I just missed it?
I encountered a lot of graphical glitches in casual mode, on Underground. There were invisible, closed doors (e.g. the turnstyle-type doors) and also doors that looked closed that weren’t. There was also a strange green fog that was only visible from above. Also, the ragdolls on all maps were a bit glitchy. Sometimes they moved around and didn’t collapse to the ground, therefore appearing as if still alive!
Anyway, I’m sold on the game so looking forward to its return!
