This sometimes happens with anti-virus suites (more than just AVG as listed in the link above). Temporarily disable yours and try to fire up DB. Another thing that can be done is to make sure all your game files are correct by validating them. I don’t have Steam in front of me right now but you can right click your game in your list, go to local files and then click a button that verifies the file integrity.

Those are two simple steps that the support link above doesn’t touch on.
