With the caveat that I open it up to everyone. That means everyone from incoming freshmen and 5th year seniors with .03 GPAs will be able to take the class.
See, I had stiff requirements since I wanted the class to be a bit more mature, so I didn’t have to worry as much about people playing games the entire time, not doing work, goofing off, making the program look bad “Today in class we just played games and shots each other lol,” etc. Classroom management nightmare ahoy!
However, I suppose this is a good thing because if gives students a hook into something they wouldn’t normally have the chance of. So, pending my go ahead of allowing everyone into the class, the “Interactive Design and Programming” course (Read, “Level Design with Radiant and ET”) will be approved for next year.
When asked why, they said that basically, they were cutting the computer hardware classes (1/2 my teaching assignment) since they can’t afford to support it next year. It used to be a state funding program, which was cut by the state this year, and the district decided to pick it up in hopes of it returning. Well, it doesn’t look like it’ll happen.
I also might pick up Computer Programming 1 and 2, which is hypercard. So, if that happened, it wouldn’t be hypercard anymore. Anyway, I have to approve the Video Game course and submit a course description by December 1st. Just thought I’d let everyone know.
Congrats…
