MVP List

I want to propose something a little different.

I think it’d be really cool to see something similar to what Blacklight Retribution did here

Only, here’s the exception, it gets the top player in Combat, Support, and Objective XP, and puts them on the screen.

And as far as in what order, it also gets their total score, and organizes them based on that, so the player with the most points is in the middle, the player with the lowest is on the left.

I think this would be a good way to show who contributed the most to the game and sort of glorify what should be expected of everyone.

I really enjoy any game that rewards you by showing everyone “You did well by doing _.”
They could even go the step further by doing a Play of the Game, disregarding Overwatches system… I would much rather see a well executed play using coordination and skill, rather than a click of a button and some amount of skill to earn that in Overwatch.
(Nesodos) #3

Can’t wait to be all 3 at once;)
would it display the mercs i used while obtaining the points or my current one just 3 times?

I think this is better:
http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/23848/dirty-bomb-medals
Most kills, best medic, best fire support, best engi etc.

(hawkeyeguy99) #5

I personally like this idea better than medals @Beryl. Specifically for me, it provides a better chance to show off the skins you have. I never get to see how my merc’s camo looks because of the first person view, but this would allow me to see it in all it’s glory as I get “best whatever”

I can’t wait to see a screen filled with JUST ME!!!

Seriously though, I do like this idea. It gives people something to shoot for in their respective areas of focus. A little animation highlight reel thing showing off the best overall stats for players would help encourage some players (the ones who care for stuff like that) to try to do well in certain areas.

For a game that’s putting so much focus on skins, this should definitely be in. One thing I would do though is make it so that you still get three different players showcased even if someone dominated more than one aspects (i.e put up some of the 2nd bests instead of duplicating). This is supposed to be a team game, better to share the spotlight than over-glorify a dominant player…

(LifeupOmega) #8

So it’d most likely be me 3 times judging by the last few games.

The nice thing about this compared to the OP idea (which is a great idea) is that you can have lots of different aspects a player can shine through with and still get credited for, even some silly or comedy ones. This could also really nicely incorporate with the new UI they are working on for matchmade games. Maybe you could hover over the best player in a given category and see their merc with that loadout and skin in 3D, as opposed to how it is now with just the card?

As long as it doesn’t have obnoxious Doom 4 style taunts at the round end I’d be happy with this too

(BananaSlug) #10

and add some victory poses or taunts to that to make some more money :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, but your idea of a good medic is killing everyone before they kill your allies…what if someone outheals you? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve got the badges to prove I’m a hard working medic!

(LifeupOmega) #12

Well, they can’t outheal if they’re dead so.

(straightforwardMacadamia) #13

Hi. I am MVP.

(bontsa) #14

This kind of thing would definitely bring some ‘reason’ for hunting good looking skins rather than just inventory hoard. Not to mention the ‘reward’ for playing well (as some people do enjoy arbitary stuff like that a lot, which isnt a bad thing at all). Even if one doesn’t care for either, it would be good to have as it has potential to indirectly raise sales = better foundation for actual developing. Gotta catch all em whales

(hoyes) #15

YES.YES. If we went with the ideaof best medic, best ammo, best assualt, best engi, it would give people the incentive to DO THEIR JOB AND PTFO. Plus showing off cool skins so they become more important and more noticable.

(Jostabeere) #16

Well they maybe should balance out all the mercs first. I feel such a “top medic/engie/killer” will be pretty one-sided.
Aura and Proxy gonna be pretty frequent on the top medic and engie MVP list. I mean, everyone knows the healing station and it’s powers. Or the speed of Proxy which basically gives her free 1st objective EXP.
But the idea itself is pretty cool.

(_retired_) #17

I would create MUP screen (Most Useless Players).

It would have probably at least one Vassili who hide behind something and never killed anything or if he did at the end of their spawn timer so it’s wasted kill. Sometimes all of them be just Vassilis.
Then there would be one of those Skyhammers that never threw ammo so you need to run to the ammo box in the last stage of Chapel etc.
Probably also Proxy/Fletcher who never fixed anything but was just spamming mines/stickies/shotgun somewhere while someone else repaired the ev with Fragger.
Let’s not forget medics like Aura’s who don’t put down their station or don’t revive when being next to you.

This would create incentive not to get into that screen.

From my experience, positive reinforcement (like the MVP screen suggested here or OW’s POTG system) works better than shaming to encourage people to do well.

Imagine this:

If you were a new player who just finished the tutorial but still get rekt by vets despite trying your very best in the match, would you want the game laughing at your face by calling you “useless”?

(Mooks101) #19

Maybe do what Overwatch does.

Provide the best killcam at the end.

With the top 3 players as well.

(The_N00Ba) #20

Just to add on what derpypenguinz19 talked about…

As some one who has been on losing end of “stacked” games again… and again… and again… and again… and again… and again… and again… and again… I hope you get the picture…

I can tell you such games can be extremely depressing. Then to get a screen telling you how useless you are would make things even worse.

A lot of people don’t like doing things that make them feel bad. Most people I know of prefer to do things that make them happy. A screen telling you how much you suck would generate more obvious negativity and push people away.

And if they are having a really bad day and you push them too far… they might not come back… physically… mentally… permanently…

Much like my friend in middle school.

So I usually can never suggest promoting how useless some one is. I would rather share the joy of their successes with them instead.
