Music to make better ambient during gameplay.

During play in W:ET all the time shots, boom , medic …
Isn’t great to hear sometimes voice from minaret in desert map like TM_WEEDPLANT_B2 etc …

I’m looking for good & free instrumental music to include in maps ex. about what i’m thinking:
0:20-0:40 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgZFhph6Hpg&feature=related Full Spectrum Warrior
0:00-0:20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9cQCzviUiA&feature=rec-LGOUT-exp_stronger_r2-HM
0:00 Black Hawk Down , Call of Duty 4, …

Maybe any music composer can make a few simple instrumental beats

I browsed many “free” sites … and begin off with research.
The best vocal source which i found / Open- Source

Many … Many Middle-Eastern songs and hard to find nice, all the time men - i dream about nice - long - slow woman voice.

only “music” I ever heard in combat was heart pounding, diesel throbbing, and staccatto gun bursts

Music running in maps can be really annoying. Best example is the radio on supply.

annoying? I think it’s great adds some more ambience

also adding the right music can also pump up the players I think.
Only problem is that the music files in ET are way too big, adding just 30 seconds of music is already around a megabyte, and that’s low quality.

I think darthmob wanted show bad example of use music :

  • infinity loop
  • short length
So playing ~5min nearly speaker You are just sick to hear it again & again

I think about short 15-30sec ambient beats. Playing maybe every 10-15min so during whole round player will not hear it too often.
If anybody played in COD4 multiplayer felt during match short ambient music. It makes great feel to stop killing for a while and look around - for falling leaves, burning cars, dead bodies …

And back soon again for killing spree

In some of the older id games there is a worldspawn key for playing music CD’s ingame directly from your CD drive. You could put in your favorite disk and listen to that.

“sounds” “1” in the worldspawn would play the first track on the CD, “sounds” “5” would play the fifth track etc.

In Quake 3 the tag “music” was added to the worldspawn so you could play a specific .wav file.

You could add this tag to your map file and then include a small or null sound file in the pk3 with your map.

Then you create another .pk3 file with the larger music wav file that has the same name and path that the worldspawn points to, so it replaces the the original one that is included in the map .pk3.

This way if people want to hear the new music they can download that file seperately while avoiding a larger download just to play your map.

This method is preferred if you are connecting to a server and have auto-download enabled or you are going thru a beta process where many versions of your map are released.
