[QUOTE=Nikto;245120]not that i know much about that kind of talk, but that didn’t sound quite correct.
and who says the person in question has english as main-language? or even second language?
perhaps the person just picked some english here and there, but i think in cases like this a more… personal approach would be the wiser choice, not telling someone he’s wrong where, in theory, the whole world can read it. and certainly not in a topic that hasn’t been touched in a week.[/QUOTE]

Well, ok, let’s say that this person’s main language isn’t English. Ok, fine. So why doesn’t that person post on boards written in his/her native language?

because they aren’t official?
english isn’t my main either you know, i’m not gonna go look for a dutch because: information there would have to be noticed, copied, and posted on that dutch forum, probably by people not having the same interests as you. as in: they would perhaps not post any info about that one ability you would have loved to know about.

not to mention all the info would have to have been translated, and everyone knows you lose a lot in translation.

@V1s0r
CoD: MW2
believe it or not, but it doesn’t have dedicated servers, everytime the host leaves there’s a 30secs-2minutes pause IF it can find a good host, if not, the game kicks you and everyone else out.

(Reanimator) #23

Letting them wallow in their ignorance is a better solution? Wouldn’t you want people to help you fix your mistakes so you can become better? If I were learning another language I would definitely want people to help me become better at it.

@ Nikto, for someone who doesn’t have English as their first language you spell better than a lot of people I know, plus your grammar is very good. The only problem you have is the lack of capitalization, but other than that it’s near flawless.

I don’t know if this applies to him, but Firefox has automatic spellcheck. It’s quite helpful to avoid looking dumb.

(potkettleblack) #25

Oh the irony.

(Senyin) #26

It’s not dumb when you can’t speak or write a language other then your native one flawlessly

It is dumb to let people “wallow in their ignorance”, as Reanimator said.
He also says: “If I were learning another language I would definitely want people to help me become better at it”. Exactly!

This has nothing to do with what I commented on…

(badman) #28

Back on topic please…

(tokamak) #29

Badman, could you perhaps correct the topic’s title so people’s eyes don’t keep crossing over it, that’s the source of the digression after all.

(brbrbr) #30

i don’t[sure] i understand Q properly, but if topicstarter curious about Brink gameplay “in general”/“what it may be looks like”, i suggest him to check ETQW and [sadly]TF2 :-/

p.s.
i hope Brink NOT share anything related with CSS/CoDMW2[but last have some usual ideas for further projects].
same was true for [possible]“feature ports” from BF, TF, UT, Cysis, FarCry, and so on …[except somewhat interesting approaches on already implemented features, on some titles].

Posting in U.S. forums isn’t the best way to learn English. Go buy Rosetta Stone or take a language class. If you’re still confused on how to spell something, give that “ABC” button a poke. That’s a spell checker. Be warned; it might take you a full half second to use it.

:stroggtapir:

We urgently require spell check!

Seriously get off this forum.

you know, now you say this, yet you were the one correcting mistakes, wich would mean you were teaching them on this U.S. forum, wich is, i think, a U.K. forum as S.D. is situated in london, not sure how that works though.

still, you seem to want to keep everyone out who doesn’t know proper english, without having made any argument other than just “get out”. while i supplied reasons why they would be better off here than on a forum of their own language.
would this, by any chance, mean that you just want them out because you can’t overlook spelling mistakes? or is it because your heart breaks everytime you see one?

(Corupt) #34

ok , so that you know :

  • English is NOT my main language , I’m french and I appreciate it when people tell where I’m wrong as long as it stays in polite manners …
  • I never thought that making one mistake would lead to this huge debate I mean come on don’t tell me it never happend to you !
  • to Yellow Steroid Puff : before posting anything you may want to use the tiny thing you have in your head , I think it’s called a brain … why you say ? simply because Splash damage is based in London not in US genius ! When you ll be as good in french as I am in english then you ll have the right to talk to me about language class…

PS : It might take me few seconds to us the spell checker but it will take you longer than that to remove all the brooms which are stuck in your a**
And by the way the Rosetta stone has been translated by a frenchie (Jean-François Champollion) so p*** off dude

(Zanchile) #35

OOOH HO HOOOO! You got served man.

(DarkangelUK) #36

Just a quick note, if someone has their own country aimed OS/browser installed… spellchecking only works for their language unless they go through the monotony of installing multiple dictionaries. But really who would go through that hassle for the sake of 1 troll.

(Auzner) #37

You don’t use forums enough. This one should have been locked long ago.

There are people who only know English; very poorly. Forums naturally always get such users who will defend their illiteracy. “You know what I mean.” “This isn’t school.” “I have a high GPA.” That’s when anyone and everyone loves to step in and contribute their thoughts. Then there are those who boast being multilingual and that no one could ever achieve their intelligence level. Which of course starts a debate on their claim since they didn’t correctly demonstrate written English. Forums always start this pattern and that’s why threads like this should be locked once the question is answered.

(Crytiqal) #38

Oh the holy grail for grammar N@Z! is right above this one.
