Multiple CPUs...

Okay… here I am compiling a map that takes a few horus.

I’m on my PC, but I stare longingly at my Mac… oh I wish I could put the Mac to good use.

Then it hits me… is there anyway to combine the cpu power of the PC & Mac for compiling?

If not, is there anyway to pipe the compiling process over to the Mac? Then I could work on the PC while the Mac chugs away… my Mac has way more RAM, and equivalent processing power…

Anyone try this or have experience?

I’m afraid no.

YOu can use the -threads X (X= number of CPU onboard) if you have a multi-processor mainboard. But combining two kinds of computer is not possible. :frowning:
But q3map2 is fast enought.

well, if you want to compile completely on the mac, you should be able to do that as long is you have some kind of file transfer connection between them. Just copy the .map file over and use q3mac2.

Yeah… but would I need to move all the shaders / textures, models, etc over to the mac as well, and have the directory structure set up the same as the PC?

Yes, probably. I don’t know what sort of file sharing technology macs come with these days, but if it has something like samba you might be able to just run q3mac in a mounted remote directory.

Otherwise, your simplest option might be to install the (unstable) 1.3.x OSX version of radiant, just to get a working wolf mapping environment. That should give you everything you need, except for your own custom shaders/textures.

edit:
BTW, there may be problems with dos/unix/mac text file formats as well…

The Mac version of q3map2 finds Mac-style text files incomprehensible, but DOS and UNIX-style files seem to build with no problems. So generating the .map on a PC and moving it to a Mac should work out fine, as far as that goes.
