Moving to spectate

At the moment it seems broken, you have to wait until you die and the respawn count has finished before you can get into spectate mode. Can this be changed so that as soon as you select to go to spectate you go there straight away?

try typing spectate in console, used to work

specs dont seem to time out if they are afk. even if server is full

Does spectating still take up a slot on the server? I know it used to, and it was really annoying because it meant one side was permanently down a player.
