Mountains in Gimp?

(Xerroz) #1

I was wondering how you can make rasied mountains for you terrain using gimp, everything i try keeps messing up, ie going lower instead of being raised :\

You’re talking about making the heightmap? White is high and black is low. Just invert the image if it’s the wrong way around (Ctrl+I in Photoshop, dunno about Gimp).

well see what happens is in doing that (inverting the colors if nothing else) my spawn point becomes raised like the mountains (instead of the intended lowered)

What? What are you talking about? If you want a mountain from Gimp, start with black, draw a big white blurred circle, and import it via gensurf. If the spawnpoint is too high MOVE IT DOWN!

via gensurf? how?

:???:

You want a mountain? Make a blurry white thing in GIMP, save as greyscale bmp. Go to the plugin menu in Radiant, pick GenSurf, in one of the tabs put the name of the file, hit OK (or whatever it says to start), and voila! A mountain.

Where’s the confusion?

thats what i meant

Perhaps I’ve been going about this wrong.

Am I correct in assuming you can indeed get a mountain in radiant, but the problem lies in the vertical position of the spawn points? If so:
Spawn points are just entities in radiant like lights, etc. They have positions, and all you have to do is select the spawnpoint entity and move it around like it was a brush. If you don’t have such entities… make one/some. The designers reference will give you some idea what to look for: see “Player Spawnpoints”.

I hope that didn’t sound too condascending: I really have no idea of your proficiency, and you don’t seem to want to give me any clue as to what you’re actually having trouble with.
