Motion Blur problems

(brainyTray) #1

Hey, I never seem to get motion blur on this game to work. Speaking of which, it never really works on other games either. I figured this would be a good place to ask as it is active and friendly, and I couldn’t find anywhere else to post.
Anyway, when I enable motion blur, I see no difference in the quality of the game. No motion blur appears to be present.

System Specs:
Intel core i7 3770k
XFX r9 290x with latest omega drivers
Windows 8.1
8gb ram
635 PSU

Idk if this helps, but it would be appreciated if I could get some assistance!

Kind regards

Motionblur depends on movement speed. In most games it is camera bound so it will only be noticable when you wiggle the camera back and forth. More advanced motionblur will also blur fast moving objects like particles grenades and stuff like that. However motionblur is trying to copy a camera effect that is inherently bound to shutterspeed. Higher fps (in recording) demands faster shutterspeed and therefore less motionblur (main reason why HFR movies feel less “cinematic”).
I’m not sure if motionblur in games obey that aswell but looking at your system specs you seem to have a fairly beefy rig so it might be that motionblur isn’t that pronounced in the first place.

Aside from all those technical jadda jadda my opinion is to disable motionblur, always. It is quite a performance hungry effect that degrades imagequality (everything becomes a blur when you move fast) for the sake of making games look more “cinematic”. Missing the point that you wanna feel like you are in the game (it should mimic your eyes and not a camera).

This, motion blur is a horrendous addition to gaming and should never be used by anyone.

Thanks for the advice guys. Well thought out and completely understandable.
