MOTD don't work

(Qbix) #1

Hello folks,

just tried out the now activated MOTD options and filled in some stuff, but it won’t show up on loading screen. Question here, does anyone also have those issues and most importantly, are there restrictions to the type or number of signs allowed as admin name, motd and such? Are colors enabled?

I can’t get it to work either. Few questions:

1.Where will it display when it does work ? Main splash screen on joining server ?

2.How do you use it. is it;
si_motd_1 what you want to type here
si_motd_1 “what you want to type here” (ie.with quotes, or does it not matter)

 1. Do you have to set motd in another file (?hosts file) somewhere and just have si_motd_1 in your server cfg ?

 2. Anyone got screen shot of it working so we can see what it looks like ?

Any direction would be appreciated.

i haven’t tried these as i don’t have a server thats up to be able to, but i did join one of those lucky servers that was running shortly after the patch update

i noted that on the map loading screen, there were welcome messages and rules and that looked like MOTD stuff. we used to get just the Server name and IP, now its server name and MOTD by the looks. btw the IP address appears to have disappeared from the map loading screen from what i recall.

EDIT just went to get a screeny: http://steamcommunity.com/id/SJ777/screenshot/540648543048124876

and now that i look at it that appears to be only the admin, email, cvar content…
The fact there are 4 lines in that new “MOTD” area on the screen makes me think either the code is stuffed and pulling the wrong info out, or the server admin has just copied the si_admin etc into the MOTDs fields

OK, got it showing. You have to have the relevant stuff just after (directly after) si_name in you server cfg, I think, like this:

//
//Configuration File for Brink made by i3D.net.
//
//i3D.net Global Hosting Services 2011
//
//If you use this file please leave this disclaimer intact.
//
//If a line starts with // it means it is commented out, the same goes for text between /* and */. If a variables follows simply remove the // to activate that specific variable.
//

//Set The server name
si_name "!Oh My Brink"
si_website "ohmycommunity.com"
si_adminName Oh My
si_email takenoutsowedontgetspammed@somemail.com
si_motd_1 "Welcome to Oh My Community Brink server, enjoy your game"
si_motd_2 "Join our forums at ohmycommunity.com"
si_motd_3 "Deliberate Teamkilling, Team Wounding will get you Banned"
si_motd_4 "Cheaters, Racists and Griefers will be Banned"

Perhaps it doesn’t have to be so, but it worked for me. Also, its a draft for now, will work on it tomorrow.

Screenshot below. I will have to fiddle about to see if colour can be changed etc but hope this helps. It is getting late for me so bed time. I will look at it again tomorrow.

ps. Is it really necessary in 2011 to limit size of image upload on forum to such a degree when we have all hopefully moved away from dialup. 97 kb max ??? I can’t imagine your bandwidth costs that much and if you need a spare hard drive SD i have an old 120 gb one. It’s PATA but hey :stuck_out_tongue: If you need an IDE cable I can rent you one :smiley: Come on…\sarcasm

MOTD working is a great step forward - but not having the IP address there anymore is a step back…

I guess as a workaround, you could have si_adminName server IP 193.93.45.36:27015
or one of the other lines that is redundant , kinda.

Colour also works with ^1,^2, ^3 etc as long as you have quotation marks around it.

ie. “^3what ever you type”
