Most Annoying Mercenary/ Mercenaries And Why?

(XavienX) #1

I find enemy’s with Proxy, Bushwhacker and Skyhammer the most annoying. Sometimes I’m just too late a step and bam, there goes the mine. Sometimes I can’t escape Bushwhacker’s turret’s line of sight down a straight hallway, I might as well stand there instead of holding w and shift key down dramatically. And Skyhammer…sometimes I just see a crowd of rockets raining down on me and I already know it’s too late.
Who’s the most annoying mercenary or mercenaries to you and why?

the whining ones

I mostly play light mercs and I especially hate fraggers and rhinoes because they’re FAT. But honestly, they’re annoying to me because they are the worst match-ups I could face with proxy. That’s just a matter of fact. In my opinion, depending on what you like to play and how you concentrate on things happening near you, there’s quite a good bunch of things that can be annoying. Pretty much every single offensive ability can be an annoyance for a player. For example, nader and aura are commonly called OP by newcomers because they are annoying to deal with when you don’t know mechanics to counter them (martyrdom and healing station). Once you get the grip on how counter those and integrated it in your game experience, this is just a feature you need to think about.

Vasilli. Not because he can 1hit gib or because the heartbeat sensor is amazing, but because they are usually camping in the back when I try and sneak by to plant on the objective >.< What a pain! Then I have to kill them to get through which gives my sneakiness away. Nothing like getting past the enemy team just to run facefirst into one of them that shouldn’t be there.

(tangerineRacer) #5

Sawbonez. Strictly more powerful than Aura, and usually even wins in a close-up encounter with Aura due to the frankly freakishly large head-hitbox. By the time I fire one shot, he’s already at his sixth.

(XavienX) #6

Welp, if you meet me in-game, you’re gonna get pissed off XD

(Amerika) #7

Jumping shotgun Proxy/Aura. It’s like they combined their fire button with jump and it’s hilarious to watch yet annoying to die to.

(avidCow) #8

Proxy with Hochfir and mp secondary. Progressively more annoying the worse my frame rate gets.

(disguisedRocket) #9

Nader + martyrdom = :frowning:

For 90% of the Vassili-players, I’m only concerned when they aim for the guy next to me. The remaining 10% are just sucking the fun out of the game.
I can appreciate a properly cooked grenade that kills half my team. Some Proxy place their mines godlike, and an awesomely played turret or sticky-trap isn’t bad to die to either.

But those crappy 5/6 Vassili annoy me on either team. Great, you killed 5 people and didn’t toss you sensor once. Real asset to the team. The opposing team, that is.

And then there are the legit 30/1 Vassili that are no fun to play against, because they just destroy you.

(Ghosthree3) #11

Vassili only annoys me because most of the time they aren’t too effective, they don’t rack up huge K/Ds. But when they do actually get a kill on you its an instant gib from a no risk location which is quite frustrating.

I’d say the ones that annoy me the most are Fragger and Proxy though. Proxy because running around into a mine is just devastating, and Fragger because I tend to play Aura a lot and he just has too much health to win most 1v1s in which you don’t get the surprise advantage.

(watsyurdeal) #12

Medics, sure do love having to kill a guy three times before he finally dies.

(Impeccable Lemon) #13

I really don’t mind most of the mercs, but I feel one in particular, Arty, is just really meh compared to everyone else. Dunno. If they fixed his targeting so it wasn’t blocked by something as insubstantial as a leaf, and if he could target the ev directly, I think he’d be viable compared to Kira or Skyhammer.

(B_Montiel) #14

Vassili is to me a further annoyance when the player don’t know how to use the heartbeat sensor properly. This is one of a useful asset, especially in defence, and people use to throw it nowhere near interesting. On pub servers, Vassili just turn totally useless if it’s not used well. Making kills does not really help the team, spotting important side routes definitely does.

And than you need to risk yourself running into the midst of battlefield to finish that guy and get yourself killed and you look at your enemy being revived again.

Vasilli. In pubs specifically, every kill by a sniper just feels like an insult. It’s like, okay, we’re playing football, and this guy who’s not even playing comes up and kicks the ball away, and you get annoyed, and have to wait before you can get back to the game. It’s not game-changing. Just a completely random, insignificant event that contributes nothing except to the sniper’s score.

If they play well and provide some sort of value, sure, that’s . . . fine. When basically all they do is take cheap shots for their own benefit, ugh.

This is exactly how I feel about it.

(Serious Sam) #18

I’m sure when I play (Sawbones w/ Blishlok) I create quite an annoyance for the other team. I play as a heavily offensive support, on the frontlines until me or a teammate are injured. I can heal myself at will very quickly with packs and I can continually revive teammates down on the frontline. Because of how offensively I play, I stay near the frontlines where most of the battle occurs, reviving teammates multiple times while still exchanging fire myself.

I topscore 9 times out of 10 (that is, in the 10 comp games I’ve played, I’ve topscored nine times and 2nd scored once) and I dunno why more people don’t play sawbones.

compare the feeling of getting killed randomly once in a while to a random airstrike/nade/explosive spam - why is it any different?

Usually snipers are terrible in this game, and the more I see on the enemy team the happier I am. Would you rather take potshot sniper fire, or have another assault or medic right in your face?

(Amerika) #20

Usually when you run into another team that has multiple snipers it means a free win. Yes, you might get killed randomly from somebody who wasn’t in your direct line of site but typically they are pretty easy to avoid as very few players in this game plays the class correctly and well. So I enjoy running into them TBH.
