Mossington Shotgun...

I’m just wondering if anyone is having the same experience with this gun as I am having.

In any fps I hate a gun that trumps everything. It’s more fun for me to be a little challenged and not have the one super awesome mega weapon that just blows everyone away as soon as you pull it out. Having said that, I have on occasion pulled out the Mossington shotgun to get out of a tight spot in a mission that I’m having trouble with, or to get a last minute objective.

It seems too powerful of a weapon. I don’t mind the power as much, but the range is absurd. I think the power of it does need to be turned down a little, but it’s like every game I’ll be getting hit from long range by a shotgun that almost puts me down in one shot.

I’m not opposed to the idea that I could be getting hit by other players at the same time, but I see the shotgun icon most times it puts me down.

When I’m using it myself and I aim down the iron sights I’ll register hits on guys I’d have trouble hitting with an AR, and being able to down foes in 2 shots from down range doesn’t seem like the kind of thing a shotgun should do.

I don’t find it has that far of a range and the time in between shots can get you killed easily.

Back in ETQW I suggested that shotgun damage should accumulate exponentially with each pellet that hits, that way it clearly draws the line between close and long encounters without having to tinker much with spread and other things. Anyway, I also took this idea to Futuremark’s Shattered Horizon and they tried it for their shotgun and it turned out to be a great weapon. This mechanic was even more useful in their space setting as in space the pellets don’t have any fall-off over range which made shotgun types harder to balance.

Sorry, should have specified I’m playing against bots who have that auto instant aim and shoot power. That’s what I think is making the single player and co op frustrating, when the bots have access to such a ridiculous weapon. It’s definitely not so bad when playing VS

Its range defiantly needs to be toned down a bit or rifles need their range increased. Currently in this game the shotgun doesn’t FEEL like a shotgun when its effective range is so close to rifles.
