Hello, just wondering if theres more memory needed for 2.5.2 one guy has got a safe malloc error and ive just got a windows virtual memory myself now ive updated, on the trace grid section, is this a deliberate new feature? cos i do have 320mb of memory and it used to be ok, guess ill have to revert back for now but is this a bug or just something thats there to stay? tx

heh. i got 1 Gig RAM and pc is swapping memory to disk while compile with 2.5.2, but i like the new _castshadows feature

Yes, 2.5 requires more memory for lighting. This is because of the new raytracing code. It was tuned for “caulk hull” maps, so if your map has lots of structural geometry (high visdata size) and/or lots of models or patch meshes, the memory requirements can be significantly higher.
Compile with -v and watch the trace setup stats. If it’s taking a while to do that, and/or the average depth is high (close to 32) or the trace primitive/triangle counts are high, that’s why.

well im using caulk hull method myself, as im sure are some other guys, seems to me its using a lot more memory, too much imo.
