More crosshair types?

(Monty) #1

So after 109 hours, I finally remembered that First Person Shooters usually have different types of crosshairs. Thus I changed mine from the cross to a dot, and made it a medium sized dot, and suddenly… My aim improved. And it was not all, for the past 109 hours I had been feeling that something was off, and that thing was the crosshair apparently. O_O

But this change of crosshair prompted some nostalgia towards Enemey Territy, which is the previous online shooter I played many years ago. In that game we had multitude of different crosshairs and the ability to change its colour. (Crosshair preview in the settings) Thus, I was wondering if we could get more crosshair types for Dirty Bomb? For example a dot surrounded by a circle? Predator triangle? A proper X instead of a cross?

What are your thoughts?

I’ve yet to touch the crosshair settings in DB, didn’t expect it to make much of a difference. Maybe I should! I feel like more settings would be relatively well received, since I’ve yet to hear anyone complain about having too much choice as a valid complaint.

Same, changing to a dot improved my aim… I agree, it’s a good idea to have lots of crosshair types, because people would be able to find the one which their aiming is best at, it looks like a minor difference but it sure help a lot.

You definitely should. I changed my crosshair from the default to a small dot, now I nail head-hits much more easily from all ranges. Most people play with the medium sized dot, but since headshots do much more damage, I found the smaller dot (colored bright red) on my resolution draaaastically improved my gameplay.

Such a simple thing makes a big difference apparently. So I’m also all for more variety of crosshairs. Although, @Monty you can use Mumble crosshair overlay. Devs have said it’s okay to have and won’t be bannable.

The brink cross hair would be amazing, and different options beside small, medium, and large.

You can already change the colour in DB.

I think there are console commands to edit it even further, altho Im not sure of this.
Will check it out right away!

I found this in a .txt, this suggests you can customize your crosshair.
This comment was stated above the code:
; defines all the properties we don’t want to override when a the .ini file is generated

I have yet to look if I can acces .ini files (assumingly there is a full config)

More crosshair customization will come as soon as the developers run out of more important things to do.
In the meantime you can use custom crosshairs via mumble overlay for example.

Found it!

I am making a tutorial on it now, will post link here shortly

I currently use a mumble overlay for my crosshair and turn the ingame one off.

(_Sniff_) #12

Turn your green down to 0 and the rest to 255 for a pink crosshair.

(N8o) #13

Will improve your aim 10/10

(Gi.Am) #14

More crosshairs, easier customization, would be more than welcomed.

btw. make your crosshair a bright slightly off color green (I prefer a 255 green 0 red 15 blue). The human eye can see green shades the best. A green crosshair always sticks out even if it sits in a green background (assuming its a different shade of green). Assuming you are not colorblind.

Well, I guess I could argue that a single dot would be much easier to follow with your eyes. It will stay on point, an be roughly in the middle of the spread. Where as with the ‘cross’ type of crosshair, your aim might be little off due to starting little bit too much to the left, right, up, or down. More so if this ‘cross’ spreads out to mimic the increased spread.

And my vote goes to…
