[drupal=686]More Brink Previews from QuakeCon 2010[/drupal]

With press and gamers getting to experience every last corner of Brink’s Container City environment at QuakeCon, we’ve got another batch of hands-on previews for you to rummage through today.
Tom Bramwell over at Eurogamer was one of the chaps able to spend an extended amount of time with Brink in the press area. His detailed preview covers his impressions of SMART, Brink’s AI, as well as the inner workings of Container City. It’s a great read - here’s a small clip:
…SMART has a huge role to play in the three levels on show at QuakeCon. Container City, a towering fortress of rusting metal built around a derelict medical ship, is only so many corridors and chokepoints to begin with. However, once you start holding down that SMART button it’s a 3D playground of clever flanking routes and alternative strategies.
Elsewhere, G4TV had a play with character and weapon customisation before diving headfirst into the demo level. Their write-up goes into detail about how the mission system works in practice, Brink’s take on death and reviving, and teamwork.
Lastly, DefaultPrime also has a hands-on preview of the game. A word of warning, though - there’s some explicit language to be found there, so sensitive souls might want to skip this one.

I love the sound of this game already. Fingers crossed for an awesome competitive experience!

Pretty sure there were ladders in fall out 3 :s , nice reading though.

(LyndonL) #4

Nah, only transitional ladders. They omitted ladders cause the engine’s AI couldn’t deal with them apparently. So the only ladders you see are ones where the new scene/world loads.

Going to have to install fall out again now, swear there were ladders by the radar on the outside.

(LyndonL) #6

The satellite installations? They were spiral stairs.

Mybe fallout 3 had ladders, but did Wolfenstien ET have ladders? none that i can think of. Certainly not in stock maps

Yes it has ladders.

Gold rush had the building with a ladder up to the balcony over the first tank barrier, Oasis had a ladder directly in front of the first axis spawn and another up to the mg nest in the artillery gun courtyard, Seawall had them in the gun room on both sides to get up to the second floor and also to get to both the mg nests facing the assault ramp, Rail gun had ladders on the rail gun and near the ammo depot to get up to a balcony on the underpass, Radar had one at the side bunker entrance and one at the back axis spawn overlooking both parts, Fuel Dump had one on the front fuel tank and one up to the garage roof.

Getting goomba multi-kills on the gold rush ladder was always fun.

We would appreciate previews that say/show new things. Not all possible permutations of the same info and focusing on Brink story.

Such as? You might be the wrong audience for a preview story.
