Mokoena/Chen audio off option.

(Xiphoid) #1

Be it the loading screens “We lost too many men yesterday” dialogue or ingame “HAH! They’ve dropped the hydro!”… I’m sorry to say, they are really, really, starting to get on my nerves now.

Allies saying “He’s got a cortext bomb!” tells me to look around for bodies “Health boost on the way” tells me to slow down so they can buff me, all very helpful. Mokoena/Chen on the other hand are only helpful when they say “You’ve been marked, they can see you”. But that’s because the sound effect for being marked by an enemy is usually overwhelmed by other sound effects.

I think the fundamental problem I have with Mokoena/Chen is that they’re overly emotional. Trying to Convey a sense of urgency with a hint of irritation (sometimes blatant) just makes me want to punch them in the face.

BTW something I’ve noticed about the new maps is that the Sound Volume controls Mokoena/Chen voices through the loading screens then passes the control to the Dialogue Volume while playing the map. (Xbox version)

“They’ve taken a command post! Recapture it!!!”… I hate them… So much.

I turned dialogue volume all the way down because, while it has some useful information, it blocks too much sound.

same here

I think they are both douchebags in their own way and yet I enjoy listening to them prattle on about whatever douchebagginess they feel is pertinent to the current task. Gives me a feeling of righteous indignation. Like when you take a test in school with a teacher you hate or your at work reporting to a boss you despise.

Always thinking: “Yeah, I’ll get the job done, no thanks to you.” Sort of fits in with the whole Brink setting in my opinion.

I think they should have Mokoena/Chen audio like the P90X audio (bear with me here)…

~All Mokoena/Chen Dialogue (as it is now)
~Some Mokoena/Chen Dialogue (the time related stuff, i.e. “5 minutes left, brothers!”)
~No Mokoena/Chen Dialogue (Just the smooth sound of soft jazz as you litter Hennessea with bullets)

All that crap just sounds like “You can’t figure things out yourself! We must help you! Gamedesign to the rescue!” to me.

And I thought ETQW’s grenade calls were bad.

lol prefer the grenade calls over the grenade icons in other games…

Turn off the audio? That was not the plan!

WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?!?!?!

(tangoliber) #10

I’d like to be able to turn off the audio as well as the cinematics.

(kilL_888) #11

you cant turn off the cinematics. thats what makes brink so special from the other shooters. this it what makes it a compelling multiplayer experience with story elements. they make it a immersive single-/multiplayer experience. they melt the border from single-/multiplayer game modes.

can you find the sarcasm?

actually the cinematics are annoying. i personally didnt even watch all of them till the end, except the ones at the end of the round im forced to watch every freaking time.

(.Chris.) #12

What? you can turn it down???

Remember when it used to broadcast it to your whole team?

(DarkangelUK) #13

There’s a cvar to turn the cinematics off as well (well skip when the loading in the background has completed), can’t remember it off the top of my head though.

(wolfnemesis75) #14

I just treat it as part of the game. Chen is like an abusive dad; he rarely has anything good to say. Overall, I like the accents of the characters and the sense of urgency the dialogue adds to the conflict. Not a problem for me.

(gooey79) #15

Cinematics should have an option to turn off but I expect they disguise level loading so will be forced forever. It’s such a compelling story that I always skip it - I’ve never seen the whole thing through. A major reason I skip though, is if I watch; I miss the start of the game…

Voiceovers, they’re more an annoyance to me. Turn them off in a heartbeat.

+1 Chen is such a jerk! Reminds me of my dad. Good times.

I absoluty get irritated by this over the top negro accent every friggin time

Aswell as Chen’s freaky sqeeky voice.
The way he says “5 minutes left brothers” always sounds like he is going to cook and eat me very soon.
He sounds like a total freak

Would love to turn them off as well as those cinematics you are forced to watch everytime. It get’s really annoying

(Cep) #18

What cracks me up with these two is when they completely get things wrong.

For example the Sec team finish escorting the bot and move onto the next objective and you then get Chen shouting “Stop the Bot! Don’t let it get to XYZ”.

Or better yet, you will have held the Sec team back from the first objective on terminal and with about 1 minute left Chen shouts “Fall Back”.

What gets really weird is when Mokoena then sounds off at you saying that his teams taken the command post and you as Res need to re-capture it lol

(Unfurl3dRelic) #19

Yeah, but eventually you start to get used to them. Eventually, they’re kinda funny - like Terminal’s opening with Mokoena.
WE’VE HIT THA MOTHARLOAD!

also correct me if i’m wrong on the map

(Verticae) #20

‘Kinda funny’ is nothing like “Oh my strogg, they’re after the databrain” though.
