Are we allowed to mod anything, like guns, animations etc?
mods
Nope. That will probably get you flagged as hacking by NGS. I would seriously advise against it.
@Eox @Ardez @RazielWarmonic Do you guys know anything?
@KUST__LunarTM Can you replace any gun/animation files like you can change the in-game text?
You asked at 1AM eastern time on a Monday morning. Please excuse us while we sleep before work on Monday. This certainly isn’t what keeps food in our mouths or a roof over our heads(well, except Raziel), so please remember we are simply volunteers and we will get to things as we can.
Personally, I’d say it isn’t possible without modifying core game files, so you would likely get banned. Editing config files is one thing, editing textures is something else completely.
I’d say no, but I’m not an expert.
Just STAY… AWAY… FROM… MAIN MENU UI… I don’t want DB to turn into next W:ET with atrocious menu UI designs.
Just wanted to say thanks to the past and present Mods as well as Raziel for taking the time when they can out of their individual lives/ work schedule to try and help answer the overwhelming amount of questions we all ask them about… well just about everything. I think they do an awesome job with what is given to them.
You’re welcome, even if I didn’t aswered anything yet.
And the answer to OP’s question is : I don’t have a clue !
We ask players to not do any configurations to the original Dirty Bomb files (aside from .ini files in your documents folder) as this can get you banned.
Cheers.

Wait… so me changing the player name colors (shooterui.ini) could get me banned??? but… I’m so used to the enemy being pink and my team being LightGreen or Yellow. Or are you talking about something different when you say “any configurations”.

A config isn’t an original file. A config file is there for you to change it. I am not an expert, but I believe the decrypted or hidden files you need third-party-programs to open and change is what @RazielWarmonic meant.

.ini files are configuration files.

Sorry, just got into the office, haha.
Made it more clear.
Whew. Thanks, Appreciate your work. (and my fears of having silly colors and HUD changes getting me banned is now gone.)
I’m glad I’m not a moderator… although a job would be nice…
I guess for now, I’ll stick to being that sort-of-unliked character on a t.v. show.
Like Oscar the Grouch, but more critical and less ‘get off my lawn’ … er… ‘trashcan’.
What? It’s cozy in here. We have mice!
(I’m really only good for balancing merc ideas, at the moment.)
Being a mod would mean I’d have to visit parts of the forum outside the mercenary discussions and suggestion zones. - Too spooky for me.
@DarkMatterMatt The mods addressed the issue pretty well from what I know. Textures are usually not allowed to be changed to prevent unfair play. If you could easily change the textures in a competitive FPS, there’d be no stopping people locally setting walls to be transparent or characters to glow bright green, which anyone would say is blatant cheating and gives you an advantage over other players. Since the text configurations don’t actually impact the gameplay in a way that can give a player an advantage, it’s allowed.
As a rule of thumb, it’s wise not to try to modify game files unless you know what you are doing is legal and you actually KNOW what you are doing.
