Modify a map

First of all I have to ask sorry if somebody already asked about this.
I looked for unsuccessful.
I saw many times maps that have been modified by the clans
for istance, the Wodanfire Clan has modified the old BEACH map (If I am right) and they added some things like a different objective.
I tryed to open the classic beach map with GTK Radiant unsuccessful.
What I have to do?

If you’re talking about map decompiling, it is a tedious process. You really need the source files if you want to properly change the game world. If you’re referring to script based changes, that is much easier, but it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

I have some map scripts for et_beach for instance, that fix bugs, and change a few game mechanics, but it’s possible to be much more ambitious than even what I have done. You can see some scripting examples here and here.

mp_beach was delivered as source .map file with rtcw (so was mp_base) so these are the easiest maps te recreate/edit

i hope u don’t mean u tried to open the .bsp file ?

No, I can’t find the .map file.
So, GTK Radiant is unable to open that map.
Where can I look for beach as .map file

As “Beach” is an RTCW map I guess it’s in the RTCW map folder.

Ehm…I dont have the old RTCW I have only ET.
Nobody knows a website with it?

You could try to get it out of the GTKRadiant game pak.
Zerowing, the FTP server of ID Software used to host seperate downloads for game packs. Problem is that this server is down. (Or better: dns doesn’t work.)

I have looked for assault.map everywhere, also into the old RTCW folder but I cant find it.
I can only find .pk3 files and in RTCW a .bsp file but GTK cant open that files it wants .map.
If somebody has that map please send to me the link :wink:

I suggest you read some tutorials and learn the basics of mapping before trying to modify an existing map. I’m afraid you underestimate the whole thing.

manoscritto is the closest I could get to “script” from 2 years of italian that I took 7 years ago, sadly. I wasn’t quite sure how to conjugate potere anymore, other than I know it’s irregular and it sounded ‘close enough’. Non posso parlare italiano in California. LoL.

You may be able to change the objectives with having the map source, maybe, depending on exactly what you want to do.

Well…I also need to change something into textures and add something at the map thats why I ask the mp_assault.map file.

The mp_assault map file has not been made public by the owners. Some people did decompiled conversions, but they have not made the source available either AFAIK.

This one should include mp_beach.

It will take work to make it look good in W:ET… And I haven’t seen any conversion which can compare to the original quality.

I’d sugest to take a look, see what you can do by scripting and start a new map yourself. Modifying/converting could take far too much work for something most people will call a “ripoff”.

wow are you really gonna to make RTCW like beach for ET :P?
Well, there is a slight problem with code though, ET mods needs to load WP_MAPMORTAR data to show mortars!
Or if you feel it is waste of memory you can change mapmortar to all just WP_MORTAR_SET I made a topic in modding part…

Oke its all right now with GtkRadiant i can open the map file.
Now I have another problem: GtkRadiant opens the map
I can see the “structure” but without the textures
it says:
Texture load failed: “textures/common/…”
on every texture to load
now I can see only SHADER NOT FOUND.
